May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, so we wanted to take a minute and recognize Katie Silveous, Au.D., for her dedication to her patients and for making sure that everyone has access to tools that will help them live every day to the fullest. One of her patients said, “As I have gotten older, I noticed that I could hear sounds, but when people spoke to me, I couldn't always understand the words. I often had to ask others to repeat themselves. Sometimes I would understand, and other times I wouldn't, so I would just pretend that I did. I felt lost in crowds and meetings. I made an appointment with Dr. Katie Silveous, and she tested me thoroughly. She fit me with hearing aids that have worked wonders. She is very professional and caring. If I notice any changes, I can call her office, and she will test my hearing again and make any necessary adjustments to my hearing aids. I always leave feeling happy and confident. I trust Dr. Silveous to help me. I no longer feel lost in a crowd, at meetings, or with family and friends.”

April is National Parkinson’s Awareness month, and we want to share a story of a member who participates in our Postpone Parkinson's exercise classes every Tuesday and Thursday.

“When I was first diagnosed with Parkinson's, we felt lost and unsure of what to do next. That's when we discovered the Wellness Center at Knox Community Hospital, and it changed everything. The Parkinson's exercise program, has helped me regain strength, improve my mobility and feel more confident every day. Taking big steps across the Aerobic Room may seem simple, but for us, it has made a world of difference. Even more important is the supportive community the program fosters- meeting with others who share the same similar experiences allows us to learn from each other, encourage one another, and find hope. The Wellness Center is more than a place to exercise; its a place where patients and families feel cared for, understood, and empowered.
