The Ohio Eastern Star community is home to 195 residents for skilled nursing, rehabilitation, assisted living, home health and independent apartment living. We employ 220 employees and play an active role in participating and supporting community events through The Glenn A. Gallagher Center--a premiere event center for banquets, weddings, and business meetings. Residents from around our campus spent some time this week planting in our raised flowerbeds in the courtyard. Life enrichment staff and resident enjoyed some fresh air and were able to beautify the area.

We certainly didn't forget the mothers out there. Our life enrichment staff work hard at making sure they are celebrated. Even though home may look different for them here living with us in community, honoring them and making a day about them hasn't changed. The day was celebrated with a tea, refreshments, and live piano for residents and their guests.

The Ohio Eastern Star Home hosted the Knox County Gifted and Enrichment students last night in our community room. Students from 1st through 8th grades presented their projects on subjects that interested them. Families, friends, and even some of our elders have the opportunity to view their hard work and learn about a variety of topics.

Stories in Motion at The Ohio Eastern Star Home
Residents at The Ohio Eastern Star Home recently experienced a truly meaningful and creative dance program in partnership with students from Kenyon College.
Led by Professor Kora Radella, students spent four weeks meeting one-on-one with our residents, listening to their life stories during weekly interviews. From those heartfelt conversations, the students created a beautiful and expressive dance performance.
As the dancers moved, the voices of our residents could be heard in the background—sharing memories, experiences, and reflections—making the performance both powerful and deeply personal. The final piece was recorded and submitted to Knox Voices, where these stories will continue to be shared.
This marks our second year partnering with Professor Radella and her class, and we are so grateful for this unique collaboration that honors the lives and voices of our residents in such an artistic way.

Intergenerational fun was in full bloom this Wednesday as residents of The Ohio Eastern Star Home visited the newly built Salvation Army Childcare Facility!

A bus full of our Elders enjoyed a wonderful morning crafting alongside the Kindergarten students. Wooden shapes of llamas and flowers became colorful masterpieces as paint dots were added, sealed inside bags, and blended into beautiful designs.

With help from our Life Enrichment Team, smiles and creativity filled the room. Once the crafts were complete, the laughter continued with a lively game of charades, featuring enthusiastic students and animated team members who kept everyone entertained.

Moments like these remind us how special it is when generations come together to create joy, friendship, and lasting memories

Opening Day spirit arrived at The Ohio Eastern Star Home last week!
Our Life Enrichment Team brought back wonderful memories as they made rounds across campus, handing out classic Cracker Jacks — complete with the prizes still tucked inside after all these years!
The fun continued when the team suited up in baseball jerseys and delivered the ballpark experience right to our Elders’ lunch tables with concession hawker trays filled with hot dogs, chips, and pop.
It truly felt like opening week at the stadium, filled with laughter, smiles, and plenty of nostalgia.
Stay tuned for pictures from our upcoming resident baseball game later this month — it’s sure to be a grand slam!

Spring has officially arrived at The Ohio Eastern Star Home!

Our Elders enjoyed a truly heartwarming experience as they posed for photos with adorable Nigerian Dwarf goats against a beautiful spring backdrop filled with fresh flowers and cheerful colors. The smiles said it all! There’s something special about the joy animals bring and the feeling of a new season in the air.

Each photo was printed and shared with their families, creating a sweet keepsake to treasure for years to come. Moments like these remind us how meaningful it is to celebrate connection, nature, and simple joys together.

Thank you to Unit Nurse Manager, Jacinda Palm and Brain Palm of Palm Valley Farm for providing the goats.

At The Ohio Eastern Star Home, keeping our residents engaged and thriving is part of everyday life!
Today, our Elders enjoyed a lively game of Hangman—putting their cognitive skills to work as they guessed letters and solved puzzles together.
With a variety of activities at the OES Home, our residents can strengthen hand-eye coordination, stay mentally sharp, and most importantly, share plenty of laughter and camaraderie. From social connection to physical and cognitive wellness, activities like these help create joyful moments and meaningful engagement each day. 💙

There’s nothing quite like a timeless Easter tradition to bring smiles across generations!

At The Ohio Eastern Star Home, our Elders enjoyed a joyful afternoon of Easter egg dyeing, surrounded by laughter, color, and creativity. With the help of our wonderful Life Enrichment Team and supportive family members, the room was filled with vibrant hues and even brighter spirits.

One of the most heartwarming moments of the day was seeing a great-granddaughter join in the fun—sharing in a special tradition and creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

From pastel masterpieces to shared stories and smiles, this beloved seasonal activity continues to be a meaningful way for our Elders to celebrate Easter and connect with loved ones, reminding us that joy truly spans generations!
