Check out info on this upcoming webinar!!

Children have never been more connected but have never felt more lonely. They may be “constantly online”, but the number of teens reporting loneliness at school has doubled between 2012-2018.

We are facing an “Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation” according to The U.S. Surgeon General and young people are more at risk than anyone else.

As parents, we face a dilemma: if we encourage our children to engage with friends in person, do we risk being told to “stay out of it”? But if we leave them to their own devices (literally and figuratively), we risk an increase in the chances they’ll face depression and anxiety.

In this webinar by Fort Health in partnership with the Child Mind Institute, parenting and mental health experts will share practical parenting tips on how to help children and teens form strong social bonds without being (or appearing to be) pushy.

Despite increased online connectivity, we are facing an "Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation," especially among young people. Parents face a tough choice: encourage offline social interaction and risk resistance, or let them be, potentially increasing the risk for depression and anxiety. Join us to...

Free online Neurodivergent Family Support Focus Group and Workshop starting Jan 20!!

We wanted to share about this upcoming workshop that may be interesting to you. Please see the description below. There is a strong emphasis on supporting families of children with autism and sensory processing differences.

Funded by the Glaser Foundation, Plus One Foundation is collaborating with licensed occupational therapists Nikki Martin and Sam Trout to offer a FREE workshop series to provide support for parents/guardians with neurodivergent children aged 5-11 (families with children outside of this age range will likely benefit too). These workshops will cover skills and tools for supporting neurodivergent children using a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based approach from an occupational therapy perspective. These workshops are a great way to still receive support and find community if your family is on a waitlist or otherwise unable to seek individualized OT services. Workshops will be offered in-person with a Zoom option, 1-3PM on four Saturdays (Jan 20, Jan 27, Feb 3, Feb 10).

Neurodiversity encompasses a wide range of neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, sensory processing disorder, among others. Any child whose brain operates differently from the norm in ways that significantly impacts their life is welcome at our workshops regardless of official diagnosis.

Session 1 (Jan 20) helps parents understand their child's experience from the inside out (designed by people with lived experience).

Session 2 (Jan 27) is cohosted by Sensory Toolhouse https://sensorytoolhouse.com/ who will give sensory strategies for the home and school.

Session 3 and 4 (Feb 3 and 10) will provide guidance for navigating the school system.

Note: this workshop is being offered on zoom only, making it easier for families to participate.
