There's a lot to think about and a lot to say about immunizations over this past year. I'm trying to follow that old advice of waiting 3 days before speaking/emailing/texting to ensure that my words aren't careless or spoken in haste. However, while I formulate my thoughts I want to be clear: I am a big fan of vaccines. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Academy of Pediatrics and others are not changing their stance on this, and neither am I. I also know as a doctor and as a parent that we are all just trying to do our best to make decisions that keep our children healthy and safe. I'm here to help you make sense of the information so that you can make those decisions. This is what being your family physician is all about--having a relationship grounded in trust so that we can have honest and respectful conversations about your health and your children's health. You love your kids. I love your kids. Let's work together.

Our holiday hours for the next couple of weeks will be:
Christmas Eve: open 8am-noon.
Christmas Day: closed.
December 26: 8am-noon.

December 30: nurse visits only.
New Year's Eve: 8am-noon.
New Year's Day: closed.
January 2: 8am-2pm, nurse visits only.

As a reminder, our phone line 319-895-1620 is always available. When the clinic is not open, you will have the option of speaking with our call center for urgent needs, or for non-urgent needs you can leave a voicemail that we will respond to during the next business day.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a little "Friendsgiving" with our buddies from Mt Vernon Veterinary Clinic yesterday.

Today I give thanks for an awesome staff, family, friends, great patients and a supportive community who have made our first year (14 months, actually) wonderful. I am ever grateful for your encouragement and support of this adventure. ❤️

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has released their recommendations for fall immunizations. This guidance is very similar to recommendations recently made by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Vaccines are important. Vaccines save lives.

It's Nurse's Week! I nearly missed it but would be happy to celebrate Megan and Heather any time of the year. These two are awesome nurses and take great care of our patients, and they take care of me, too. Starting a clinic means a lot of random jobs need done, and they have stepped up and helped in so many ways. Beyond being nurses, they've taken on painting, interior design, cleaning, shoveling snow, window tinting, community outreach, even entertaining my kids when they are at the office, and the list could go on...

I have been lucky to work with a number of great nurses in my career (thanks to all of you!) and while I'm grateful for you every day, I want to especially say THANK YOU during this week dedicated to you!
