Meet our newest counselor, Scott Grantland, M.Div., M.Ed., ALC., who is accepting clients at our newest location- Grace UMC in Auburn!
Scott is an ordained United Methodist Minister from the Alabama-West Florida Conference and an Associate Licensed Counselor. He received a Bachelor of Arts at Birmingham-Southern College, a Master of Divinity at Duke Divinity School, and a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University Montgomery. Along with his counseling practice, Scott serves as pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in Auburn, AL.
His counseling perspective is informed by the work of Carl Jung and the depth psychological traditions. This means he views the psyche as being filled with complexity and symbolism. Amidst this complexity and symbolism is an inherent tendency toward wholeness. In this approach, symptoms are understood as communications, not pathologies or failures. Dreams, images, and emotions are treated as meaningful. The unconscious is treated with respect, not force. Healing is a process of becoming more fully oneself. Therapy is not about fixing what is broken, but about engaging in an ongoing dialogue with the inner world; a dialogue that supports growth, integration, and a deeper sense of meaning.
In his spare time, Scott enjoys running, hiking, reading, and travel.
To schedule an appointment with Scott, either in office or virtual, email office@unitedcounseling.org or call 205-824-8320.
