Stress, Lyme Disease, and Brain Based Care
Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in the United States. If left untreated, the infection can spread to the joints, heart, and nervous system. Lyme disease also places incredible stress on your brain.
People who suffer from Lyme disease can have a very diminished quality of life due to symptoms that can manifest as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, autoimmune conditions, depression, anxiety, and even memory loss. Chronic Lyme disease is called “the great imitator” for this reason.
According to the CDC, more than half a million people each year are diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease.
Stress is a leading factor in Lyme relapse as it causes a release of cortisol, which can speed up the reproduction of Lyme bacteria.
Many people who have Lyme disease and are under regular brain-based care see a significant reduction (and in some cases, alleviation) of their physical and neurological symptoms.
The reason for this is that brain-based care actually helps the brain and nervous system better adapt to stress.
