Mental Health Monday Tip: Coping with change.
Facing an unexpected pregnancy? Graduation? A move? New job?
Big changes in life can be really unsettling. Here's what you can do to relieve the stress of these changes:
*Find something familiar and grounding, like a habit (TV show) or a daily walk that you can focus on and look forward to.
*Understand perspective: Take a mental view from above your situation, or look down the road 2 years, 5 years from now. Your recent stressors may feel overwhelming. But what positive things could come from it?
*Be flexible. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes we have to let go of expectations to make new things less scary.
*Find people who understand. A trusted friend, a support group or organization (like the PRC!) can help you find perspective, offer advice and help make new experiences easier to handle. Having others to lean on is better than trying to manage alone!
