Good Thursday morning to all 🪷
Most of my clients come to me for more than a relaxing massage. Those are the rare few. These massages are an indeed self care necessity!
Most of my clients come for extreme pain relief, including post surgery, etc. This is why as soon as Í became a Licensed Massage Therapist, Í immediately went back to Little Rock and significantly increased my education to become a Practitioner in Medical Massage.
Many do not understand the difference so I would love to help you understand and break it down for you. 😊
🌿 Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)
A Licensed Massage Therapist is someone who has:
• Completed required education (usually 500–1,000+ hours depending on the state)
• Passed a State licensing exam (like the MBLEx) - note I am qualified for Arkansas and Missouri.
• Is legally licensed to practice massage
What they typically focus on:
• Relaxation and stress relief
• General muscle tension
• Circulation and wellness
• Techniques like Swedish massage, basic deep tissue, hot stone, etc.
Think of this as wellness-focused care—helping you feel better overall. This is most definitely important to your health.
⸻
🩺 Licensed Massage Therapist – Medical Massage Practitioner
A medical massage practitioner is still an LMT, but with advanced, specialized training focused on treating many specific conditions.
What makes them different:
• They use clinical assessment skills (posture, range of motion, pain patterns)
• Sessions are treatment-focused, not just relaxation
• Techniques are tailored to a specific diagnosis or problem
• Often work alongside or receive referrals from:
• Doctors
• Chiropractors
• Physical therapists
What they typically treat:
• Injury recovery (car accidents, sports injuries)
• Chronic pain (neck, back, sciatica)
• Conditions like:
• TMJ dysfunction
• Frozen shoulder
• Tendonitis
• Post-surgical rehabilitation (when appropriate)
Think of this as outcome-based care—the goal is measurable improvement, not just relaxation.
⸻
Both are extremely effective and important to your overall health.
