The Schliemann Center for Women's Health offers free classes on childbirth and more.

The Schliemann Center for Women's Health Education is part of Baxter Regional Medical Center's effort to provide superior healthcare for women at all stages of their lives. As one of the Community Support and Education Houses, they provide free classes and support groups focused on babysitting, breastfeeding, childbirth, menopause, nutrition, wellness and heart health. Programs offered throughout the year include Girls' Night Out, Teen Girls Go To College, Golden Girls' Day Out, Working Women in the Know, and Schliemann Learning Sessions.

Difficulty swallowing can happen at any age, but it's more common in older adults. If it progresses into a disorder, called dysphagia and it can lead to malnutrition, weight loss, dehydration, aspiration pneumonia or choking. Come learn how you can tell the difference between normal age-related swallow changes and dysphagia and what you can do about it. Also, we will review some prevention tips and exercises to keep your swallow function strong to avoid dysphagia.

Twenty years ago today, the Women's Health Education Center opened on the campus of Baxter Regional Medical Center, thanks to the vision and leadership of the late Mary Wren, MD. She envisioned a place where women of all ages could find support and resources to help them with whatever challenges they were facing.

A Women's Health Advisory Board was formed, funds were raised by Baxter Health Foundation, and the center opened on Thursday, September 8, 2005. It was dedicated in 2008 as the Schliemann Center for Women’s Health Education after the late Josee Schliemann, a Women’s Health Advisory Board founding member and generous friend to Baxter Health Foundation.

Today, the Baxter Health Schliemann Center for Women's Health continues its mission to promote good health and well-being for women in every stage of their lives. We appreciate the continued support of the Schliemann Center and look forward to many more great years ahead!
