We were forced to change our original name,
The New Jersey School of Massage (circa 1980) in 1996 by the state attorney general. He said it sounded as if we represented the State of NJ. Truth is he was a friend of another school and that school lodged a complaint about our name. The politics in the massage profession back then was on steroids.
So we became the North Jersey Massage Training Center. Just a name change, not ownership. Nowadays we are called The New Jersey Massage Training Center, or just New Jersey Massage, still same ownership.
We are the longest running massage school in New Jersey but we stopped teaching undergraduate education years ago (2006).
Historically, we are a school of firsts...
we were the first school to teach Shiatsu, first to teach medical massage, first to teach lymphatic drainage, first to present at six different hospital Grand Medical Rounds. We were the massage therapy team for 9/11 treating NY’s Finest, presenting at dozens of healthcare facilities, nursing homes and town Department of Health’s and hundreds of charity fundraisers. To graduate from our school back then, each student had to do massage at six charity events, ie., The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, for the Multiple Sclerosis organization, for battered women and children (Run for Rachel), the Diabetes Touré de Cure, Cancer, Heart Disease, the list was endless.
We taught our students everything about doing events, how to set up, market, and most importantly, how to use a massage chair, a shiatsu mat and/or a table. We treated hundreds at these events. Good learning, good karma.
