Featured Student: Irene 🤩
Say hello to Irene, a long time practitioner (10years) who recently completed 300 classes at Crave.
❓ What sparked your initial interest?
🧘🏽♀️The desire to slow down and be more present. Present with myself, my family, my thoughts. In my 30s and 40s I participated in a lot of endurance activities - running, triathlons, and relays. As I moved closer to my 40s I had an urge to slow down. Not physically. I was lucky, even after several years of grueling rides, runs, and swims, that my body was injury free. But mentally I was moving too fast, and I wasn’t present. I was working a full-time corporate job, getting a master’s degree, raising two elementary-age children. My days were full, and I was always feeling behind. I don’t remember exactly when I went to my first yoga class. I think I tried it with a Groupon, and I was hooked. I loved how intentional every pose felt. I loved the yumminess of each stretch and angle. I loved being on my mat in a studio, breathing.
❓In what way has practicing yoga influenced your life beyond the mat?
🧘🏽♀️I can breathe myself into a state of calm, ground myself, and keep on keeping on. In July my husband and I trekked to Everest Base Camp.
❓ What keeps you motivated to maintain your yoga practice?
🧘🏽♀️ Sitting on the floor and getting up without help.
❓ Could you share an interesting or fun fact about your yoga journey?
🧘🏽♀️ I did a teacher training with Nikki in 2018. I have no desire to teach yoga. I just wanted to deepen my practice as a whole. I am always on the lookout for ways to deepen my practice mentally, technically, physically, and spiritually.
🙏🏼 Thank you, Irene, for sharing your journey with us. From showing up on your mat each week to trekking in the Himalayas, your story is such an inspiring reminder of the strength, resilience, and calm that yoga can nurture. We’re so grateful to have you as part of the Crave community.
