What is NMES? 💪🏻⚡️

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) is a type of electrical stimulation therapy that uses gentle electrical impulses to cause muscles to contract. These muscle contractions help:

✅ Strengthen weak muscles
✅ Improve muscle function after injury or surgery
✅ Prevent muscle atrophy (shrinking)
✅ Re-train muscles to work properly
✅ Improve range of motion and circulation

NMES is especially helpful for people recovering from:
• Surgery (like knee replacement or ACL repair)
• Stroke or neurological conditions
• Injuries that limit movement
• Muscle imbalances or weakness

It’s safe, non-invasive, and often used alongside physical therapy to speed up recovery and improve overall function.

Whether you’re recovering from surgery, stroke, or injury — NMES can help you regain strength and function faster!

📞 Want to know if NMES is right for you? Call GTS Physical Therapy today!

🔍 What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a skilled technique used by trained physical therapists to treat muscle pain, tightness, and movement problems.

It involves inserting very thin, sterile needles into trigger points (tight “knots” in muscles) to:

✅ Reduce pain and muscle tension
✅ Improve blood flow and healing
✅ Restore range of motion
✅ Release trigger points
✅ Improve nerve and muscle function

Dry needling is called “dry” because no medication is injected — the needle alone stimulates the body’s natural healing response.

It’s especially helpful for:
• Chronic or acute muscle pain
• Sports injuries
• Tension headaches
• Neck, back, or joint pain
• Muscle tightness and stiffness

It’s different from acupuncture — dry needling is based on modern anatomy and neurophysiology, not traditional Chinese medicine.
