❗️OILY HAIR ❗️One of the more common questions I get asked is "why is my hair so oily?!"
Debunking the myths...
1. Does shampooing more frequently cause my hair to be more oily? NO. When a person does not shampoo their hair 3-7x weekly, the natural oils and residues from products start to build up, thus causing flat and greasy hair. (Using the right type of shampoo is key though)
2. My stylist advised me not to shampoo but 1-2x per week, why? Your stylist is correct, BECAUSE, the shampoo you use at home is probably NOT designed for frequent washing (Professional or store bought) but this doesn't mean you don't wash your hair.
So why do you have oily hair?
Unfortunately, genetics play a large role. However, adapting an at-home routine can help calm oil production. Avoid fast foods, dairy products (whey isolate), and minimize alcohol intake. Choose whole foods like fruits and vegetables (adapt an alkaline diet). Taking the right supplements to help level out the body. Ashwagandha is a great supplement to help relax your adrenal glands. B-12, Milk Thistle, Spirulina and Barley Grass juice powder are important for hair health as well. Lastly, increased sebum production can result from hyperthyroidism or those who use oral contraceptives. Always speak with your doctor before making any of these changes to your day to day routine.
* The best thing you can do is switch to an "every- day" shampoo and add that to your daily routine. I hope this helps❤️
