Oprah is on to something here: the power of our breath. Deep breaths not only increase oxygen to our brain and body, but exhaling them helps us cleanse our spirit as well. It’s a way for us to de-stress and reset.

Take two minutes a day to really focus on your breath and do some breathing exercises, especially when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Close your eyes and breathe through your nose for 6 counts, then breathe out through your nose for 6 counts.

No, it won’t fix all your problems, but it’s a form of self-care that can help bring calmness to the chaos. And can’t we all use that right now?

I know you’ve heard this before: You can’t control how other people act, but you can control how you react.

When your boss is undermining you.

When your coworker is clearly slacking, leaving you with more work.

When your significant other is driving you crazy.

When your kid makes a huge mess right before you have a big Zoom presentation.

All of it makes you want to scream. But that does nobody any good.

Instead, practice these affirmations regularly, so that you’re able to react in the most effective way:

I am in control of how I react to others.

I choose to be courageous, and stand up for myself.

I’m unapologetic about taking up space.

I choose peace.

I choose to understand the other side.

I choose to find the way forward and achieve success.

Whether you’re playing a new sport, starting a business, or trying to make a huge change in your life... this still applies.

While looking at the past can be helpful, it can also be a source of distraction (ie. regreting failures or bad decisions, questioning yourself). Instead, start from where you are, divert your time and energy to things that can make a difference for your future.

Try to avoid comparing yourself to others- you’re most likely comparing your failures to their achievements. Instead, focus on using what you have.

GO. Start NOW. Perhaps that’s the hardest one. The actually doing rather than procrastinating or hoping for a change. Just do what you can. And remember you can always ask for help.
