Whatever area of your life you don't empower, someone else can overpower.

Before computerized cars, did you take your car for someone else to fix it when you knew how to do it yourself?

Do you call an electrician to change a simple light switch when you've done it a dozen times?

I am forever grateful for my neurosurgeon who put me back together when I broke my back and all the other emergency staff and first responders!

For minor and chronic illnesses though, what happened to personal accountability and taking responsibility for our own health and the health of our families?

Over the last 4 months, I brought a dying parvo puppy back to health with nutritional supplements, high quality nutrition and daily use of a frequency device. Over the years, I kept 2 other dogs alive for 4 years past their suggested expiration dates, taking daily walks with a good quality of life. Aside from my dogs, some of you know my "terminal" recurrent melanoma with liver and lymphatic metastasis expiration date was 20 years ago. No traditional medical treatment for cancer since 2002. Adding toxic substances to an already toxic body, does not promote health, in any way. Purposely causing inflammation, with the hope that the inflammation somehow kicks up the immune system, has never been the best way to prevent anything. Nutrition, sunshine, deep breathing in nature, self love, a loving community and working a job that's satisfying and fulfilling, are proven to enhance health. Playing and being happy speed things up. Add goal achieving and everything gets better! I know less than 1% will have the balls to do what I've done, but it's worked for me and others. Faith over fear! Where's my 1%? Leading by example. Let's go!

What are you feeling right now? Do you feel different temperatures on different parts of your body? Is your nose cold, but your toes are sweating? Can you move one toe at a time? If you gently rub your thumb and another finger together, can you feel the stickiness of the ridges compared to touching your neck? Different ways of breathing can help us feel more calm and grounded when dealing with tense situations. Try 6 long, deep breaths. How do you feel now? If none of that worked, meet me at Edgewater for a 6 minute initiation into the world of cold.

What’s your biggest fear? Did you know fear of not being good enough is at the top of the list for most people? It’s not just you! What if you could look at the other side of that coin and have faith that you’re more than good enough? Who keeps playing in your head making you believe you’re not good enough? It’s not you!

Deep down, you know you can do everything you want to do, but also know you might fail a few times along the way. That’s okay! We learn the most from our failures. Who cares what anyone else thinks! Plus, if anyone says anything negative, ask why you believe it and when are you saying the same thing to yourself?

How many amazing experiences do you remember throughout your life? How many f-ups do you remember? Why do we always remember the bad s**t, but have to dig to find the golden nuggets? What if you looked at the other side of that coin?

Challenge: At the end of each day, make a list about all of the things that were okay, good, great and fantabulous. Write it on paper and put it in a jar. When you’re feeling bored or worse, dump the jar and read everything you need to until you have a smile on your face.

People keep asking me what I did to survive 20 years with "terminal" cancer. This challenge is one of those things. Why do you think it might help? Guesses welcome!

I’d love to interview the pilot if anyone knows him. Not his family, they wouldn’t understand.

A month after I broke my back in a skydiving accident, I went with my mom to pick blueberries at a u-pick farm by the airport. Every time I heard the caravan slowing down to let people out, I’d stop picking and look up with a giant grin on my face. In that first moment, I knew I’d jump again, but didn’t know when. How could I not? Mom carried a step stool out in the field for me to sit on. I was using a walker and wearing a back brace, but standing was limited because of the blood clot in my leg. The day I crashed, er staff repeatedly told me I’d probably never walk again. The first time mom caught me grinning and counting jumpers, she said if I did it again, she’d put me in a nursing home. She’s always threatened bodily harm, I guess that’s where I got that from. We usually complied because we knew she’d follow through if we didn’t. Funny how known consequences help making better decisions. Seems she was always right, so she probably did have our best interest at heart.

The scariest life threatening activity I’ve ever done, resulted in being the most exciting, confidence building, self loving event of my life so far! Not the 2 tandem skydives, but my first solo skydive after the accident. It took 6 years for life to be so s**tty, jumping was the best mental health option I knew. Back then, there’s no way I would’ve gotten in cold water. I had learned so much from skydiving, both from the successful jumps and the crash. I knew it would help me deal with the stress of my job. If only I knew then, what I know now…

Something they teach from the beginning is universal. We learn it riding a bike or motorcycle, driving a car or flying a plane. Boats and sometimes walking too. Look at where you want to go. If you look at the obstacle in your way, you’ll probably hit it. Focus on where you want to go. Focus on what you want, in all areas of life!
For the last few days, I’ve been wondering what’s been going on in this student pilot’s head. He’s still alive, so clearly made good choices. Was it the best option? Possibilities are infinite, but most people would be scared and never fly again. I even thought that, then remembered I jumped 37 times after my crash. I’m hoping he’s so excited to be alive and sees this as another chance to do something else great in his life!

Remember to keep your eyes open and focused on wherever you want to go.

Beautiful night at Edgewater Beach

I went for a swim in the dark by myself. It was more like a plunge, since it was almost low tide, on its way out. I rarely go where I can’t touch the bottom when the tide is going out. Sometimes, before the end of the dock, it’ll feel like I’m in a river, but it’s not visible on the surface. A container ship went by in the dark, and I know if I got carried into the shipping lane, I’d never be seen, so staying in the shallows made sense. I’m always up for doing something that scares me a little, but there’s a difference between scary and stupid. What percentage of people would say going in cold, salty water alone in the dark is stupid? We all have our perspective on things, based on our experiences. I’ve decided that when someone is talking about something I disagree with, I’ll just shake my head a little, realizing that I could be the one who’s wrong and change the subject to things I’m grateful for. Is it my job to share my experiences or to just be happy? In my world, I get to pick both!

It was snowing again, so I knew I needed to go swim before the roads got bad. I checked the chat and decided to go with other mermaids. I was leaving on time, so I wasn’t in a hurry. Apparently, the wind and snow were blowing from the north and made my driveway more icy than I expected. 2/3 of the way down (it’s steep) I slid the rest of the way down, across the sidewalk and flew into the street when my feet hit a dry spot. I’m so thankful I was wearing 2 pairs of pants, gloves and my dryrobe. All skin is still attached. Also thankful that the few things that are sore showed me what I needed to see. Giant thank you to the books “Feelings Buried Alive Never Die” and “Messages from the Body”!
