John Johnson

John Johnson, 76, of Muncie, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Brickyard Health Care in Muncie.

John was born on July 10, 1948, in Muncie to the late Donald H. and M. Margarette Johnson. He was a 1966 graduate of Muncie Central High School. John worked as a maintenance foreman at Warner Gear and had also worked at Muncie Metal Spinning. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the CIOCC Car Club. John enjoyed biking, golfing, and archery.

John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Rebecca Johnson; two sons, Michael V. Johnson and Wesley D. Johnson; a brother, R. Craig Johnson (wife Diana); and several additional family members including, grandchildren and cousins.

A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 6:00pm Friday, March 14, 2025, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery at a later time.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm Friday, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice in memory of John.

Ivan Clay Poor, 69, Muncie, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, April 11, 2024, at his home.

He was born May 1, 1954, in Muncie, the son of Travis and Daisy Poor. Ivan graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1972. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Ivan was an avid sports fan and enjoyed riding his Harley. He worked as a Tool and Die Maker at City Machine and later he retired from Borg Warner where he worked over twenty years as an engineer.

Survivors include his special friend, Marilyn Beeson; his sons, Ivan (wife, Ann) Poor and Stephen (wife, Christi) Poor; four sisters, Janet, Frances, Rita, and Diane; grandchildren, Kiersten (husband, Isaac) Findley, Cohen Poor, Megan (husband, Eric) DeWael, and Brooke (husband, Don) Jackson; great-grandson, James DeWael; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Daisy Poor.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park.

Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.

Jerry Burley

Yorktown - Jerry L. Burley, 82, passed away late Wednesday evening, October 13, 2021 following an extended illness. He was born on May 4, 1939 in Muncie the son of Cecil and Ida (Stahl) Burley.

Jerry attended Muncie Community Schools and enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and honorably served for four years. While serving, he married the love of his life, Judith (Carman) Burley on May 24, 1957 in Muncie and she survives. Mr. Burley worked as an Electronic Technician for BorgWarner retiring in 2007 after 29 years of service. Mr. Burley was a member of the United Auto Workers Union and enjoyed working with computers.

Besides his wife of 64 years, Judith, he is survived by 2 daughters, Sara Nelli and Jeri L. Smith (Tracy Stafford); 5 grandchildren, Levi J. Stafford, Michael Nelli, Marcus Nelli, Brandyn Cox and Rhianna Smith; 1 brother, Joe Minor (Teresa); 1 sister, Julie Blevins (Bill); several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debra Sue Cox; 1 grandson, Justin Cox; 1 sister, Patricia Thronbro.

Cremation has been chosen with a private family gathering at a later date. Parson Mortuary Cremation Center is entrusted with these arrangements.

SHELEY RAY SIMMONS
Sheley Ray Simmons passed away, Sunday August 15, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital after a brief illness. He was born January 21, 1944, in Owensboro, Kentucky where he grew up and graduated from Owensboro High School. He relocated to Muncie, IN and was a beloved member of the community.
Sheley worked for Borg Warner for many decades and eventually retired.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Modock Calhoun and his father, George William Calhoun.
Sheley is survived by his sister, Gail Leachman (husband, Larry Leachman), daughter, Misty Witherite (husband, Jason Witherite), daughter, April Simmons, son, Cedric Simmons, and seven grandchildren.
Calling hour will be held on Monday August 23, 2021, from 11am to 12 Noon at Union Missionary Baptist Church located at 1100 N Macedonia Ave Muncie, IN 47303. Funeral service and burial are private for immediate family. We ask all those in attendance wear masks. Community Family Funeral Home, Richmond, Indiana, has been entrusted with arrangements. Michael W. Barber

Michael W. Barber, 73, passed away at his home on July 22, 2021. Mike was a lifelong resident of Muncie where he graduated from Southside High School in 1966. He worked at Westinghouse for 16 years before retiring from Borg Warner after 24 years.

Mike was a very loving, family man. He enjoyed building cars and attending car shows with Sue. He is survived by his longtime girlfriend Sue Pattison, daughter Dawn Bricker, granddaughter Hannah Brantley (husband Dakota), two great grandsons Colten and Easton Brantley, sisters Deborah King and Sandra Lynn (husband Robert) and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents Wayne and Margaret Barber, daughter Amy Barber and two grandsons, Ross Bricker and Ryan Bricker.

Private graveside services to be held at a future date.

Memorial contributions can be made to Little Red Door Cancer Agency.
