We hear these types of questions almost ✨daily✨ regarding the Optos retinal image, so let’s chat about it!

Optos was created by Douglas Anderson following his 5-year-old son being left blinded in one eye after a retinal detachment was not caught at his annual eye exam. 🥺 Anderson made it his life’s mission to ensure that what happened to his son did not happen to others, and his invention has most definitely assisted eye care professionals in doing so!

Optos is an ultra-widefield retinal imaging machine that allows eyecare professionals to snap an image 📸 that shows over 200 degrees (more than 80%!) of the retina in just a single capture. It allows professionals to discover, diagnose, document, and treat ocular diseases – as well as other non-ocular related issues! Did you know that your doctor can help identify diabetes, hypertension, and certain cancers?! Optos makes all of that possible, as well as identifying retinal detachments, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal holes/tears, and age-related macular degeneration. 🤯

Most offices charge $35-$50 for these images; but at Family Vision Care, you’ll only pay $10 💸 to ensure your retina is as healthy as it can be (or to find out something is going on that needs addressed!). We believe this technology should be accessible to all and encourage all of our patients to take advantage of it!

Talk about a throwback! Vintage glasses really make us appreciate today’s technological advances in optical wear. Can you imagine if a glasses wearer time traveled from 100 years ago and found out we can get lenses that turn into sunglasses (Transitions) or frames that audio enhance your surroundings (Nuance)?! 🤯
