While ocular conditions and diseases may keep us in business, we want to see that your eyes are as healthy as possible! Maintaining a healthy diet is one of best ways to ensure long-term eye health.

Seek foods that are high in vitamins and antioxidants for maximum benefits.

Carotenoids (antioxidants) like lutein and zeaxanthin reduce the risk of age related eye disease (think age related macular degeneration and cataracts) AND help filter harmful blue light. So important with today’s technology and abundance of screen time!

Selenium acts as a preventative antioxidant and can help manage eye disease like macular degeneration. Selenium deficiency has also been strongly linked to thyroid eye disease!

Omega-3 fatty acids are important to the overall health of the eye, particularly for dry eye! If you find yourself going for the artificial tears often, increase your intake of omega-3. Additionally, it may help reduce risk of developing age related macular degeneration and glaucoma.

Vitamin A helps keep the photoreceptors functioning properly, which is responsible for low-light vision. If you find yourself starting to struggle with night vision, up your vitamin A intake asap!

Vitamin C keeps the blood vessels to your eyes healthy, necessary for healthy vision. It is also thought to be one of the key factors in preventing age related cataracts!

Vitamin E protects the eye from fatty acids that are found naturally in the retina.

One of the most common things we hear (besides how amazing our doctors are) is that glasses can get expensive. While we don’t disagree that glasses can be quite the investment, it’s easy to lose sight of how important quality glasses are. Cost per wear is an important factor!
