🌟 Why Wednesday 🌟 Meet Elizabeth (Lizy) Schmidt, MA, CCC-SLP – a Speech-Language Pathologist who has called The Woodlands home for the past 10.5 years! 💚 Lizy’s path to speech therapy wasn’t exactly a straight line – she originally earned her bachelor’s degree in pre-dental studies before realizing her heart wasn’t quite in it. That all changed the day she stepped into a skilled nursing facility alongside her sister-in-law, an SLP. It was love at first sight. From that moment, Lizy knew she had found her calling. She went back to school to earn a second bachelor’s in Speech Pathology and Audiology, followed by a master’s degree in Speech Pathology – and she’s never looked back. Her “why”? 🗣️ “Communication, eating, and thinking aren’t things most people ever worry about losing… but that’s where I shine.” Lizy sees it as an honor to walk beside her residents as they reclaim some of life’s most meaningful abilities. From helping someone safely enjoy their favorite meal to hearing them speak with clarity once more – these small moments are her greatest joys. 💬☕💖 What keeps her rooted at The Woodlands? Her therapy team. “They’re not just coworkers – they’re my best friends. We are the strongest unit, and I truly couldn’t do this without them.” Outside of work, Lizy is a party-planning queen for her two daughters – especially when it comes to their favorite holiday, Valentine’s Day! 💘 You’ll often find her and her family soaking up sunshine at the lake on weekends. 🌅🛶 💥 Fun Facts About Lizy: She organizes an annual 5K every April, Zoe's Unicorn Trot, to raise awareness and support for kids with limb differences – this year she raised over $50,000! 👟💪 She’s a huge Spider-Man fan – yep, you read that right! 🕷️🕸️ She has a rare gift for loving people in the exact way they need to feel it. Lizy is always learning more about her coworkers, just so she can show up for them in the most meaningful way. We are beyond lucky to have someone like Lizy on our team – her compassion, expertise, and genuine love for others make The Woodlands a better place every single day. 💚

Shawana was nominated by one of our Hospice Healthcare partners who had this to say: "Shawana is doing a great job of making residents, especially my patient, feel happy and accept the fact that she cannot go home. The facility has been wonderful for her, and the easygoing environment helps in a big way. Shawana is super down-to-earth and patient with the residents. She is a hoot!"
