Sub zero temperatures tonight. Warming stations open tonight in Muncie.....

With the possibility for sub-zero temperatures and windchill, predicted to start tonight through Friday night, the City of Muncie and Delaware County would like to send a reminder regarding warming stations that are available for use by the public. As always, please use caution during wintery weather.

Delaware County is under the ice storm warning expected today. Be careful out there today and tomorrow!

ALERT: Much of Central Indiana has been upgraded to Ice Storm Warnings including the following counties: Boone, Clay, Delaware, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Owen, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, Shelby and Vigo Counties from this afternoon through Monday afternoon.

This is a dangerous situation. Freezing rain is expected to develop this afternoon and continue through tonight. Extremely cold surface temperatures will allow the freezing rain to efficiently and quickly accumulate. Over 1/4" of ice accumulation is expected in the counties listed in the Ice Storm Warning and treacherous road conditions, downed tree limbs and isolated power outages are likely.

Winter Weather Advisories have also been expanded farther North to include areas like Lafayette, Delphi, Crawfordsville, Tipton and Kokomo. Some freezing rain is possible this afternoon and this evening before transitioning to sleet & snow. A tenth of an inch of freezing rain along with 2-3" of snow and sleet is likely in these areas.

Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for South Central and Southern Indiana and Western and Southwestern Ohio where freezing rain is expected. One to two tenths of an inch of freezing rain is possible in these areas and treacherous road conditions are likely.

While no advisories have been issued for Northern Indiana we still expect 2-4" of snow and sleet to fall this evening, tonight and early Monday morning which will create hazardous road conditions.

This is what we're in for tonight and tomorrow. Road conditions are already deteriorating so please be careful if you must travel.

Last one. Based on ongoing radar and model data trends we have expanded and shifted the red zone (12") a little farther to the East and Southeast. Needless to say this will be a very high impact snow and ice event. Every single county in the state of Indiana and Western Ohio will see heavy snow and or freezing rain. Travel will become very dangerous this evening and tonight.
