“A common sign is that it takes hours to do 20 minutes of homework,” says Dr. Myers. “This child often cannot recall what they just read, and they skip or re-read lines.”

Other common signs include headaches in the afternoon, child rubs their eyes frequently, falls asleep when reading, overlooks small words or reverses letters or words or avoids reading altogether. have undetected vision problems which make it nearly impossible to do the intense near work that fills most classroom hours. In fact, certain vision conditions have symptoms that overlap significantly with those of A.D.H.D. In some cases, vision problems complicate or mimic attention problems. Dr. Myers offers free workshops to groups and clubs to teach parents and other professionals how to identify children with this type of problem.
