Alice “Mozelle” Smith, age 93, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025 in her hometown of Munday, TX. She was born on August 25, 1931 in Munday, TX, the daughter of Clarence and Amy (Fought) Booe.

Mozelle married Edward Smith on July 2, 1948, in Munday, TX. They were members of the First Baptist Church. In 1953, they welcomed their son, Larry, who was her pride and joy. Throughout her life, she was known by many names, but the two she held in the highest regard for were Mom and Nanny. Mozelle was an amazing homemaker, and she took great joy in supporting community activities, walking for health, and spending time checking on family and friends. During the afternoons, she could usually be found sharing a cup of coffee during one of those visits.

Mozelle was passionate about time with family, especially with her grandchildren. As Nanny, she was known for great storytelling, trips to Ben Franklin’s for special treats, passing along her love for afternoon coffee, and having special one on one time with each grandchild. Staying with Nanny was always fun! Known for her radiant smile and impeccable style, she was also a woman who took great pride in expressing herself – whether through her outfits or her makeup, Mozelle was always sure to look her best, even at the nursing home.

Mozelle was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Smith, and infant son, Terry Allen. Other cherished family preceding her in death are her parents; sisters, Peggy Brown and JoAnn Bowden;, brother, J.R. Booe, and daughter-in-law, Linda Smith.

She is survived by her son, Larry Edward Smith [Kelly]; grandchildren, Brady Smith, Tyler Smith [Lori], and Larinda Smith; great-grandchildren, Ramey, Levi, and Luke Smith; brother-inlaws, Randall Brown and Lee Bowden; as well as nieces and nephews, and friends who will all cherish her memories.

A service will be held on August 6, 2025 at 11am at the First Baptist Church in Munday, with interment following at Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home. A visitation of family and friends will occur at 10am preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Big Country CASA in her memory.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers of Munday Nursing Center for their years of care and making her feel at home.

Mozelle, aka “Nanny,” will be deeply missed, but her love, strength, and spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved, Lessie Inez Nicholson, who left this world surrounded by loved ones early Tuesday morning.
Born on October 5, 1924, in Peoria, Texas, to Johnnie and Lillie Richardson, Lessie lived a life full of faith, kindness, and an unshakable love for her family. She married the love of her life, Hubert Arthur Nicholson, and together, they built a home
filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories, spending many years in New Mexico before returning to Texas.
Lessie was a devoted member of the Church of Christ and a woman with unwavering faith, which guided and strengthened her throughout her life. She dedicated much of her life to not only nourishing bodies, but hearts as well, working in the cafeterias of the Tatum and Ruidoso school district until her retirement. Her kindness
and compassion reached far beyond her workplace, leaving a lasting impact on
everyone she met.
Lessie was the foundation of her family. She embraced life's highs and lows with grace and resilience while keeping her heart open and prioritizing her family. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and the unconditional love she shared with those around her.
Lessie had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in the simple beauty of God’s creation. She cherished the sights and sounds of nature, especially flowers, trees, and birds. As an avid birdwatcher, she delighted in the hummingbirds that surrounded her home, enjoying their songs and watching them feed. She was the type of woman who stopped to smell the roses.
She also had a passion for gardening, taking pride in growing vibrant flowers that brightened her home and brought her happiness. She embraced the simple beauty of life, whether camping under the stars, fishing by the water’s edge, or hunting alongside loved ones. Lessie embraced every opportunity to be outside. Her creativity knew no
bounds - she poured love into every quilt she stitched, every piece of jewelry she made,
and every cross-stitch she carefully crafted.
Lessie had a love for coin collecting and the history each piece held. She especially enjoyed sharing this passion with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will live on in their hearts. More than just a hobby, it was a way for her to connect with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing her knowledge, excitement, and the joy of discovery. Those special moments spent
together, examining coins and uncovering their histories, will forever be treasured.
Lessie’s greatest joy was her family, who will forever cherish her wisdom, positivity, and unconditional love. She is survived by her loving daughter, Frances Parker and husband Doug of Munday, TX; her brother, Bobby Richardson of Whitney, TX; and her sister, Joyce Coates of Iredell, TX. She leaves behind three
granddaughters who adored her: Amy Crabtree and husband James of Clifton, TX; Lynn Finley and husband Kevin of Abilene, TX; and Ann Thornock and husband Ty of Shawano, WI. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Parker Finley of Abilene, TX; McKenna Crabtree and husband Anthony Walton of New Haven, CT;
Brady Finley and wife Adrianna of Abilene, TX; Nicole Thornock of Dallas, TX; Emily Thornock of Rotan, TX; and Breleigh Thornock of Shawano, WI.
She now joyfully reunites with those who went before her: her parents, Johnnie
and Lillie Mae Richardson; her beloved husband, Hubert Nicholson; her son, Hubert
Doyle Nicholson; her daughter, Linda Karene Nicholson; her great-granddaughter,
Katie Marie Crabtree; and her siblings, Lois Aulds, Maggie Hampbrick, Nell Odom,
Jackie Johnson, Johnny Richardson, Marvin Richardson, Dub Richardson, and
Jimmy Richardson.
One of the greatest blessings of Lessie’s life was celebrating her 100th birthday on October 5, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. That day was filled with laughter, love, and gratitude for a century well-lived—memories that will be treasured forever.
Lessie’s burial will be a private family gathering at Terrace Cemetery in Post, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in her memory.
Her love, strength, and kindness touched so many lives. Though we grieve her loss, we find comfort knowing she is at peace. Her legacy continues to live on in the hearts of those she loved.
