ABCS diplomate Dr. Daisy Ayim shares the dedication and sacrifice behind her journey to becoming a board certified cosmetic surgeon.

Dr. Ayim commuted between Bellevue, Washington and Houston, Texas during her fellowship training. Long nights, time away from home, and countless hours of commitment were all part of the path to ABCS certification.

The journey to becoming an ABCS diplomate requires:
⭐ Complete medical school, an ACGME or AOA residency program, and become board certified in a related surgical specialty
⭐ Complete a comprehensive AACS certified fellowship, performing hundreds of cosmetic surgery procedures under expert supervision
⭐ Pass rigorous written and oral board examinations
⭐ Maintain an unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care

Behind every board certified cosmetic surgeon is a story of passion, purpose, and perseverance.

Considering facelift surgery? Here's what you need to know about this transformative procedure.

Facelift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy, lifts and firms sagging facial tissues to restore a more naturally youthful appearance. By removing excess, sagging skin, smoothing deep folds, and lifting and tightening the deep facial tissues, a facelift can help you look like a younger version of yourself.

Learn about what a facelift addresses, recovery expectations, and how results age with you over time.

💡 Important to know: A facelift addresses the lower two thirds of the face, including the cheeks and jawline. Procedures like eyelid lifts or brow lifts require different techniques and are separate surgeries, though they can be performed at the same time.

Choosing a board certified cosmetic surgeon ensures your surgeon is specifically trained and experienced in cosmetic surgery, including rhytidectomy techniques, and that your procedure will be performed in an accredited surgical facility.

Endoscopic surgery is a modern approach that allows cosmetic surgeons to achieve precise results with less disruption to surrounding tissues.

In this installment of the ABCs of Facial Cosmetic Surgery, the letter E stands for endoscopic surgery, a minimally invasive technique that uses small incisions and a camera (endoscope) to guide surgical correction. It is commonly used for procedures such as brow lifts and midface lifts, helping reduce visible scarring and support a smoother recovery.

When performed by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon, endoscopic techniques can deliver effective facial rejuvenation while prioritizing patient safety and surgical accuracy.

Loose vertical neck bands are a common concern, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.

ABCS diplomate Dr. Kamran Dastoury of Modern Surgical Arts of Denver with Dr. Dastoury answered this question from a RealSelf patient by explaining that neck banding is most often related to laxity of the platysma muscle, along with age-related changes in skin elasticity.

Treatment options vary based on anatomy and severity and may include:
• Non-surgical approaches such as Botox and radiofrequency skin tightening
• Surgical platysmaplasty with minimal skin removal
• Surgical platysmaplasty combined with advanced skin-tightening technology

The most important step is an in-person evaluation with a facial cosmetic surgeon who can create a personalized plan based on your anatomy and goals.

A meaningful cosmetic surgery consultation starts with listening.

In this video, ABCS diplomate Dr. Alton Ingram of shares his patient-centered approach, beginning every consultation with a conversation, not paperwork. By first understanding what a patient wants to change, Dr. Ingram can offer thoughtful surgical recommendations tailored to their goals, anatomy, and comfort level.

This focus on communication and trust helps patients feel heard, supported, and confident in their decisions—one of the most important parts of the cosmetic surgery experience.
