Every like. Every comment. Every share. Every message.

Y’all may think it’s “just a reaction,” but to me, it’s confirmation that this work matters. That the stories matter. That our ancestors matter.

Thank you for supporting, engaging, and standing with me as we continue uncovering, restoring, and protecting our family histories.

I don’t take it lightly. I appreciate each of you more than you know. 💛

Episode 1 (Part 1) is LIVE 🎙️✨

At some point… this stopped being a hobby.

In this first episode, we’re taking it back to the very beginning:

🌿 What first made us curious about our family history
🌿 The moment we realized something was missing
🌿 And the very first discovery that changed everything

For us, it wasn’t just names on a tree.
It was a feeling. A pull. A whisper that said, there’s more to your story.

And then came that one record…
That one DNA match…
That one name we had never heard before…

And nothing was the same after that.

This episode is for anyone who has ever:
• Wondered where they really come from
• Felt like pieces of their story were missing
• Discovered something that shifted their identity

Because sometimes the first discovery doesn’t just answer questions…

It opens a door you can’t close.

🎧 Tune in to Episode 1 (Part 1) now.
And tell us in the comments — what was the first thing that made YOU curious about your roots?

There’s something powerful about remembering the ones who helped shape your roots. 🌿

Today through Sisters of the Soil, I’m honoring my maternal great grandfather, James Miller — “Big Daddy.”

Born August 25, 1912 in Greenville, Mississippi, he lived through seasons of history most of us only read about. From the Mississippi Delta to Los Angeles, California, where he passed on November 17, 1995, his life tells a story of movement, resilience, and legacy.

But what I remember most…is how he carried himself.

Big Daddy stayed dressed. Sharp suits. Clean lines. Presence. He believed in looking like something every time he stepped out. And if you knew him, you already know — he drove Cadillacs. Only Cadillacs. I never saw him drive anything else…lol. That wasn’t just a car — that was a statement.

He moved with dignity.
He dressed with intention.
He lived with pride.

At Sisters of the Soil, we talk about honoring the shoulders we stand on — and Big Daddy is one of mine. His style, his standard, his strength…it lives on in us.

Grateful to be a branch on his tree. 🌳
Rest well, Big Daddy. Your legacy still rides with us. 🚗✨

I sat with this question longer than I expected.

If I could have one conversation with an ancestor… who would it be?

For me, it would be my great grandmother, Adline Burks.

After around 1940, it’s like she disappears from the records. No clear death information. No explanation. Just silence — and what feels like a family secret.

In this video, I share why I would choose her… and what I would really want to ask.

This work isn’t just about names and dates. It’s about the stories that weren’t preserved. Especially the stories of Black women whose lives were rarely documented with care.

Some ancestors leave records.
Some leave memories.
And some leave questions.

Press play. 🤎

✨ There comes a moment when you start wondering… where did I come from?

For many of us, family history is more than names and dates — it’s strength, sacrifice, stories, and legacy.

Sisters of the Soil was created for anyone who feel called to reconnect with their roots, ask questions, and preserve the stories that deserve to be remembered.

You don’t have to have all the answers.
You don’t even have to know where to start.

You just have to be willing to begin. 🌱

If you’ve ever felt the pull to learn more about your people, your past, or your story… you belong here.

✨ Welcome to Sisters of the Soil.

🧬 Honest question…

If you had everything you needed to start tracing your roots — the records, the answers, the time — would you actually begin?

And more importantly…WHY?

Would it be to find missing pieces?
To understand where your strength comes from?
To heal something your family never talked about?
Or simply to know the names of the people who made your existence possible?

No wrong answers here. Just real stories.

Drop your WHY in the comments 👇🏾 — you never know who your story might encourage to start their own journey. 🌿💛

There’s something powerful about seeing your ancestor’s name written down — like a doorway opening to who you truly are.

That moment reminded me that our stories didn’t start with us… and they shouldn’t end with us either.

This is why we do the work.
To remember. To honor. To reconnect. 🌱

What is the oldest ancestor you know by name? 🌱

Not a story you heard.
Not a “they say.”

A name.

There’s something powerful about being able to say their name out loud.

Drop it below if you’re comfortable sharing.
Let’s honor them together.
