Today, we acknowledge and honor Juneteenth.

On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the news of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Happy Tuesday Everyone!! Please help us welcome Angela Maes, LCSW to our Crayton Counseling & Associates, LLC family!!

Hello, I’m Angela Maes, I have recently obtained my license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been working in the Social Work field in general for over 16 plus years or more, it's been a minute. But there is always so much to learn, and I love learning and trying new things! I really do think I strive to be a lifelong learner of several things. I try very hard to treat others with respect, dignity, and truly try to meet each person they are at (and not where I want them to be), and try to accept everyone with unconditional positive regard, much like I think most of us want to be treated. Yes? YES!

I attended University of Denver where I graduated in June 2016, and was inducted into Phi Alpha Chi. I have close to around nine years combined as a community mental health therapist. This just translates to I love being able to practice therapy, it is truly an honor to partner with my client's and find what therapeutic modality (evidence-based model we are to use) to help guide the change process along. I try my best to educate my clients as to the various modalities I use which range from: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strengths Based Perspective, Psychoanalytic, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Interviewing, etc. I utilize: Humanistic therapy, social skills training, and holistic therapy in general, also Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I try to let my client help select the best modality that will benefit them the most, and will fit their goals/objectives, and personality! I also have worked with quite a diverse group of individuals from individuals that fall on the Autism spectrum , some severe mental health, substance abuse related to anxiety, depression, grief and ADHD. I enjoy helping people find coping skills so they can feel more positive in general about their overall wellbeing.

What is my current focus/specialty you are probably wondering? I would say that I tend to do the best in my opinion with children, adolescents, and elderly that struggle with self-worth issues/ADHD, anxiety, depression, and folks that struggle with traumatic childhoods that still impact them today. These tend to be what I tend to gravitate towards and feel like I am better suited to help with. As a Social Worker, we have to learn about a variety of various cultures, and their norms, traditions, and if they are more matriarchal/patriarchal based. However, we are not to ever come from a place of thinking we are competent in any one specific culture/individual and to come from a place of humility and asking if unsure. I try my best to subscribe to this. I wholeheartedly try to support what works best for you! I truly believe my clients are the EXPERTS on themselves, and if they aren't that is alright, we can learn it together!

Transformation is a beautiful thing to be a part of and to watch someone grow socially, psychologically, and emotionally, and I truly am honored if you are willing to let me support you on this incredible journey! I try to provide a unique therapy experience that is dedicated to the transformative power of self-awareness, and integrate traditional psychotherapy, along with other modalities that will best support you on your continued path to wellness, and accomplish YOUR goals! Thank you for entrusting me with your story, I look forward to working alongside you!
