We were honored to receive a Built to Last Award at last week’s Main Street Annual Celebration for the Downtown businesses. We were also happy to have our family there supporting us, including one teenager that literally ran in from track practice. 🏃‍♀️

Thank you for the kind words Main Street Murfreesboro/Rutherford, Inc.:

Beckman’s Prescription Shop – opened in 1973. Beckman’s Prescription Shop has been part of downtown since 1973, and the reason it’s stayed strong all these years is pretty simple: it’s always been about a personal connection with its patients and the community.

Milton and Sylvia Beckman built Beckman’s on hard work and genuine customer relationships. As second-generation business owners and pharmacists, Keith and Shannon Beckman have adapted and evolved with
the ever-changing pharmacy industry. By leading with kindness, actively listening to patients, and broadening its clinical services, the pharmacy has been able to grow while still holding tight to the personal touch that sets it apart. Although much has changed in healthcare and independent pharmacy, Beckman’s continues to treat every patient like family.

According to Keith and Shannon, “Taking over ownership of the pharmacy was both exciting and meaningful. We feel a deep sense of responsibility to honor the pharmacy’s history, while also bringing fresh energy and ideas to keep Beckman’s relevant and thriving. Looking ahead, we are very excited about the future of our business downtown. We see Beckman’s continuing to grow, staying rooted in the community, and being a place people love to support for many years to come.”

Happiest of Birthdays to our lead Pharmacy Technician, Elizabeth! She’s the absolute best at taking care of our patients and we have been so blessed to have her as part of our team for almost 10 years. A patient brought her by these beautiful flowers today, since “her smile brightens up the pharmacy!” We agree!! Wish her a very Happy Birthday if you see her!! 🎉🎂

Stickney Drugs sold to the Beckman's.

Newspaper clipping probably from the Daily News Journal

How does one compete with competition? Buy it out of course. Not only did you buy all the stock of the business, you get all of it's patients as well.

Stickney Drugs, which operated on the Square for 66 years under the ownership of Richard Stickney, was sold to husband-wife pharmacists, Milton & Sylvia Beckman. Standing behind the drugstores counter are, left to right, Beckman Stickney, Mrs. Beckman, and Wiley Barnes, who has been a clerk at the store for 30 years.

Beckman’s Pharmacy has operated in its current building since 1976 and carries a legacy that stretches back even further. The pharmacy was once located at the historic Polk Hotel.

Today, owners Keith and Shannon Beckman continue the family tradition, carrying forward generations of service, care, and commitment to the Murfreesboro community.

In 2026, Beckman’s Pharmacy received Main Street Murfreesboro’s Built to Last Award, recognizing businesses that demonstrate longevity, resilience, and a lasting impact on our historic district.

Downtown Murfreesboro thrives because of businesses like Beckman’s, rooted in history and committed to the future.
