For those who missed the tick talk with Dr. Underwood on 99.7 WTN with here’s some highlights:
• Lonestar tick → Alpha Gal
• Alpha Gal = syndrome that may occur after being bit by the Lonestar tick
• Allergic reaction to beef, pork, lamb, bovine products like gelatin, and even colostrum and dairy products
• Reaction generally hours after exposure
• Can be mild to severe → lip/throat swelling, indigestion, digestive discomfort, rash
Prevention:
• tick deterrent sprays, geranium oil is key to deter ticks
• bug bouncer homeopathic when outdoors
• tick-check after woods / parks / hiking / outdoor exposure (groin area, ankles, legs, arms)
• if a tick is found, remove immediately and apply a drawing oil or salve right away
• DO NOT put anything on the tick, just grab and pull straight out
