Bought some beautiful sunflowers 🌻 at the store this evening just cuz. I love what they represent … another symbol of God’s exquisite design in nature and how He wants us to relate to Him… always keeping our face toward the Son.

So grateful for all the people who helped develop the Covid vaccine. Extra grateful, too, to have the opportunity to get my first dose today. Makes me think of how thankful am for JESUS, the even greater Remedy for the sin-sickness in my heart.

Wishing you and yours the joy and peace of Jesus today and always.

Recently I found myself falling into the trap of comparison (again). Measuring myself against certain people around me. Does that ever happen to you? It’s a crummy place to be! I do so much better when I’m actively standing guard at the door of my mind - taking every thought by the scruff of the neck to make sure it aligns with what Jesus says, and if it doesn’t casting the thought aside. That, and cultivating gratitude leads me to live much more consistently in contentment and joy, and who doesn’t want that?

“take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Cor. 10:5

“Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” Galatians 6:4 (MSG)

“God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him.” -John Piper

Perhaps this season of extra time at home together has helped strengthen your relationship and increased your appreciation of one another. Perhaps it has amplified issues that were already there but previously able to be pushed to the side by staying busy. Consider investing in growing through those difficulties and becoming more healthily connected through couples therapy. Your relationship is worth it!

There is no shame in reaching out for extra support, especially in a season of unprecedented change and disruption to the usual flow of life. If you’re feeling anxious, distressed, overwhelmed, or having difficulty coping with all that’s going on, know that help is available. For years, teletherapy has been a wonderful way for me to provide ongoing care to clients at a distance or unable to meet face-to-face for other reasons. This technology is such a gift, especially in times like these. I encourage you to reach out to me or another mental health professional today. You don’t have to go through this alone.

It’s really true! We are the ones in charge of the thoughts we dwell on. And our thoughts are major influencers of our feelings and behaviors. The Bible tells us to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Let’s give thought to what we’re thinking about and make sure it lines up with Jesus. If not, we can discard it. We may not have control over the thousands of thoughts that come into our minds everyday, but we can take charge of the thoughts we give further attention and energy to. It takes practice, but we can build the habit of thinking on things that are true, honorable, just, praiseworthy, pure, and excellent. Practice this today and see how it affects your mood and behavior.
