You can’t skip the basics

And please on’t take advice from random people who don’t know what they’re talking about...

If someone is recommending this supplement, or that early morning routine, be careful and take it with a grain of salt.

True rest should be restorative.

It should refill your cup.
It shouldn't be total escapism OR a distraction.
It should be intentional.

Purposeful.

If you're still burnt out, tired, and overwhelmed after you "rest," it isn't rest.

PS: A great way to start is on a yoga mat :)

During a busy time of year, find time to lean into the season in the name of your health.

-Eat warm, cooked foods
-Move when you can (even if it's just a walk)
-Sit with people you love

There will be a time for goal setting and pushing again🤍

This time of year, when you're extra busy with social activities and your regular routine is off, remember that a little movement goes a long way.

- Stand up and stretch for 5 minutes.

- Go outside and walk to the mailbox.

- Take a few deep, long inhales and exhale slowly.

Just because your routine is different (or maybe doesn't exist) right now, doesn't mean you can't find those micro moments to move and tune in.

Your body will thank you later.

I used to struggle every year when the holidays were around the corner. The thought of being surrounded by copious amounts of food and having to choose between indulging or picking at the "healthiest" options occupied so much of my mental space. It robbed me of connection and had me worshipping my "wellness routine."

Fast forward, I realized I was shackled by my fear of foods that weren't the "cleanest" or "healthiest." I was anxious about having to "make up for it later." The truth is, this mindset kept me from honoring my family's traditions and appreciating the pumpkin pie my mom makes every year. It reminded me that I don't eat turkey not because I can't, but because it's gross (a non-negatable truth).

If you feel anxiety around the holidays for any of these reasons, take a breath, get on your mat, and get in your body instead of floating in your head. And maybe, bring the rolls. It's going to be okay. Food is more than just nourishment; it's community, gathering, and PEOPLE.

I see you,

Kira

I've talked so much over the years about values and drivers in health. The truth is, implementing change because you think you're supposed to or because someone else did it will get you started, but it probably won't keep you doing the thing.

If you really want to change your health, if you really want to change the trajectory of your long-term wellness, it has to be attached to a bigger WHY.

Something that's important to you. Something that holds value to you. Something that you're connected to on a deeper level .

I do mobility work regularly and get down on the floor on my yoga mat, not because it's cool or Instagram-worthy, but because I hope to be able to get down on the floor and open Christmas gifts with my grandkids one day.

I focus on balance and hip mobility regularly, not because I want to be a ballerina, but because I want to be able to get on and off the horse independently for as long as I can.

I focus on balance and strength training regularly to reduce my risk of falls and live independently as long as possible.

It's the long game.

Find your WHY and you'll find your health.🤍
