Here at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital, we’re grateful for the incredible nurses who make our community healthier, stronger, and more whole.

🌺 This Nurses Week, we’re celebrating with one word: Ohana.
In Hawaiian, it means family — not just the people you’re born to, but the ones who show up. The ones who stay. The ones who hold your hand when it’s hardest to be held.

To every nurse on our team: you are our Ohana. And we are so grateful you’re ours. 💙 Enjoy this fun-filled week of food trucks, theme days, and a whole lot of gratitude!

Chattanooga is the birthplace of the Medal of Honor, and Erlanger was proud to be the healthcare partner for the 2025 Medal of Honor Celebration. As part of Believe Bash, military veterans Dr. Chris Bell and ER Nurse Aaron Lewis share what it means to provide over 285 hours of specialized care to our nation's heroes and the profound impact these interactions have on our staff. Their courage reminds us why compassionate care matters.

The heart of what we do is compassionately caring for people. That's our mission, and we live it every day. Saturday night, we introduced Chattanooga to three stories that will demonstrate how we care for the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.

“Organ donors are heroes and being able to help patients who have been ill for years prior to a transplant, is a big part of why I love my job,” said Dr. Alan Koffron, Surgical Director of Erlanger Kidney Transplant Center.

To honor those who gave the gift of a second chance at life, Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital held a flag raising ceremony in Murphy. Community members and Mayor Tim Radford joined hospital staff to hear the testimony of just one of the many transplant recipients.

The transplant waiting list is added to every eight minutes. Just one registered organ donor can save up to eight lives, restore sight to two people, and heal 75 people with their tissue. There is no cost to register as an organ donor. For more information on organ and tissue donation, or how to become a donor, visit donatelifenc.org.

April is Occupational Therapy Month!

We’re proud to recognize the occupational therapists who help our patients regain independence, rebuild confidence, and return to the activities that matter most. Thank you for the compassionate, life‑changing care you provide every day.

From ankle sprains to hamstring strains, our Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) help our local student athletes stay safe, healthy, and on top of their game! A HUGE shout-out to ATCs Misha Fanelli (Andrews HS), Shannon Sutton (Hayesville HS), and Hayden Burch (Murphy HS).

ATCs work closely with team physicians to provide services such as prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Thank you for all that you for our student athletes!

Behind every recovery, every diagnosis, every "it's going to be OK" is a doctor who gave everything they had. Today we say thank you.

We're so grateful: over 500 physicians across 65 specialties, right here, close to home. Today we celebrate the doctors who have made this region their life's work. Happy National Doctors' Day.

🌸Celebrating Phyllis🌸

"A dedicated nurse, devoted leader and tireless advocate for patients and staff. Phyllis' resilience and compassion remains an inspiration to all who walk these halls. Her legacy of care, strength, and kindness lives on in every life she touched."

Those are the words written by the EWCH team in loving memory and in celebration of the life of Phyllis Hardin, who served as the hospital's Emergency Department Manager for almost 20 years.

Employees, friends and family members gathered in the Serenity Garden, partaking of her favorite snack (donuts) and sharing funny stories and wonderful memories. Phyllis touched so many lives, and we'll miss her dearly. ❤️
