I have a feeling I’m not the only one who needs to hear this today…
I do not feel disempowered or in survivor energy… but rather in the midst of deeper spiritual scrubbing as lower frequencies fight for attention.

Shaman know the importance of identifying and releasing the roles we use for self identity; because we are not those roles… We are much greater than those roles.

Who I am is much greater than being female, daughter, mother, wife, white, American, christian, shaman, chaplain, minister, counselor, manager, administrator, healer, good person, boomer, responsible, ethical, student, teacher, cousin, aunt, middle-class, retired, friend, neighbor or senior citizen.

A few years ago as I was planning retirement I stopped coloring my hair & allowed my natural gray to dominate. I was surprised how differently people treated me at work. I felt invisible, placated, taken less seriously, my opinions discounted & goals minimized.

Age discrimination is a very real issue in our society… so much so that we internalize the collective dislike of aging.

Identifying & releasing our shadow beliefs are important as we evolve as souls; both individually & collectively.

I woke up feeling heavy in heart. After several recent events: 1. An evening with friends & a very conservative political conversation; 2. Hearing the SBC ( the Southern Baptist Convention who ordained me 37 years ago) has voted to stop ordaining women & endorsing women in clergy jobs (including chaplaincy, my 35 year career); 3. A post in our local social media about the “rightness” of one’s religious beliefs over & against a plethora of religious traditions & world views that are labeled divergent & the followers “lost” ( it was a post referencing the LGTBQi+ community); a common social media “discussion” in this very rural, narrow-minded, hyper religious community.

Growing up Southern Baptist... the fight over whose theology is more Biblically based is not new to me. However, I dont remember living in a time where a collective persona is so dominant in claiming power & making laws that exclude whole populations of people. Probably because I grew up in the sixties as the boomers were challenging those same dominant oppressive structures. But how is it all the work to expand consciousness has so dramatically reversed?

In an effort to find my center & make sense of the world I’m experiencing I turned to one of my favorite theologians:Richard Rohr who established the Center for Action & Contemplation. Todays meditation was enlightening.

Reflection on our shadow selves… the over-developed persona that is seeking to claim dominance & power.
We are living in a time where the crumbling of our collective persona is so great that folks are fighting to hang on to idealized selves no matter the cost. People are demanding others change so I don’t feel threatened or wrong. Laws are going into place to make sure the other changes & I am right.

We have a saying in our family: “You can be right or you can be in relationship”.

As I reflect & try to gain understanding…I realize how I fall into the same trap. (You conservative, judgemental as****es need to get educated & stop this oppressive non-sense!!! You dont own the sandbox!! We have to co-exist!!!!)

How different the collective conscious would be if we all did our shadow work & freed our selves from over- developed personas. I realize the only way I can effect the collective is to do my own shadow work. I can only change me. Sometimes it feels like a small drop of water in a very big pool.

I guess from a distance we are living in very interesting times as patterns recycle through history once again.

I love the shamanic practices of non-attachment, non-judgment, non-suffering & beauty (peace).
