It is important if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or suspect you may have COVID-19 and are using a nebulizer at home, that you know the virus may persist in droplets in the air for 1-2 hours. Therefore, you should administer nebulized albuterol in a location that minimizes exposure to members of your household who aren’t infected. Choose a location for your treatment where air is not recirculated into the home – places like a porch or patio, or in a garage – areas where surfaces can be cleaned more easily or may not need cleaning.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has listed asthma as one of the chronic illnesses that may increase the chance of a severe case of COVID-19. So, what do you need to know if you or a family member suffers from asthma? Read the points below for more information.

Respiratory viruses are the most common trigger for asthma exacerbations (severe worsening typically requiring oral steroids to relieve symptoms).
Not all viruses affect asthma patients equally. Some viruses such as influenza and rhinovirus are more likely to trigger asthma flares than others.
Right now, we don’t know if COVID-19 is one of those viruses that tends to trigger asthma exacerbation.
There is no clear evidence that patients with asthma are at any higher risk of contracting COVID-19.
Asthma is an “underlying medical condition” that may be associated with more severe disease if you are infected with COVID-19.
There is no evidence that asthma medications used to prevent symptoms (inhaled steroids, oral steroids, montelukast, biologics), etc. increase your risk of contracting COVID-19.

•The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a new Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) on April 8 that suggests a possible increased risk for hospitalization due to COVID-19 in asthma patients, which is not unexpected. Asthma control is highly important always, more so when there is a higher risk of catching viral infections including Influenza and Novel Corona virus related.

COVID19 Emergency Plan

Keeping in mind the public health emergency situation in DFW area due to COVID-19 outbreak and the importance of social distancing, we have come up with the following guidelines.
Please note that we have many patients with immune-deficiencies, chronic lung conditions, and elderly patients who are at high risk if exposed to COVID-19 virus.

1. For patients who may have been exposed to COVID19 coronavirus (air travel within the last 14 days or exposure to someone under investigation or diagnosed with coronavirus) and have fever over 100.4, body aches, fatigue, cough, shortness of breath, cold like symptoms should call their P*P or go to the ER. Please call the ER before you go in, so they are prepared. There is no testing available for coronavirus in our clinic and please do not come in.

2. For patients who may have been exposed to coronavirus (air travel within the last 14 days or exposure to someone under investigation or diagnosed with coronavirus) and are not having any symptoms, please self-quarantine yourselves at home. This includes patients who are currently receiving allergy shots also. We will work with you on resuming shots on a safer dose at a safer time. Please seek immediate medical attention if you start becoming symptomatic.

3. Please call us if you would like to reschedule your appointment at 972 521 3366.

4. We are working on tele health option with video conferencing, we will update you separately on that.

5. Patients on allergy shots who have not had any likely exposure to COVID19 virus in the past 2 weeks can come in at this time for shots. They will wait in their car after the shot for 30 minutes and return into the office for any possible reaction. These guidelines can change based on recommendations from CDC/ or AAAAI/ACAAI. Please visit the website and fb page for updates.

6. We will be screening all patients coming in for routine appointments by phone prior to your appointment to make sure you are not in the at- risk group for COVID -19 at the time of your visit. We will do this screening once again upon check in. Based on your risk level, your appointment might be rescheduled to another convenient time. Please work with us for the safety of everyone.

7. Please note that there is now a community level spread in DFW area. Avoid close contact less than 6 feet with other people even when they do not appear to be sick.

8. Visits should be limited to the primary patient only and a caregiver if needed. Additional family members should remain at home or in the car to limit their exposure to illness in the clinic.

9. All patients arriving in the clinic are requested to immediately clean their hands with hand cleanser and encouraged to do so again upon leaving the clinic.

10. We might be postponing testing including allergy testing, breathing tests, based on the recommendations from CDC/ AAAAI/ ACAAI. We will update you separately on that.

11. We are wiping down exam rooms after each patient visit. We are not encouraging hand shaking. Our staff will be wearing masks at all times.
12. Please also note that we can be short staffed depending on the day care availability for the staff member’s children or depending on staff member’s health. Please work with us.

Thank you for your co-operation!
