It was a true privilege to work for Team USA as their physio/physical therapist. A huge congratulations to the team for winning the North American & Caribbean Handball Championships and qualifying for the World Championships which will be held in Sweden/Poland next January! I can’t wait to continue working for Team USA for their major comps going forward!
Working for a National Team brings such a wealth of experience and I’m so grateful for this opportunity!

It was a great experience competing with the nation’s best at the 2022 Australian Track & Field Championships, held in Sydney. Although my performances were not up to standard this time, placing in the top 30 in the country for the 400m is still a decent result. The 200m (not pictured) was also a fun race to compete in!
By still competing at a high level, it enables a better delivery of physical therapy to athletes by understanding the pressures and demands of elite sport.

I have been getting incredible success when dry needling scar tissue/post-operative scars. This patient suffered a fractured humerus, treated via ORIF (open-reduction internal fixation) which left a hefty scar.

Initially the area around the scar had no sensation, was profoundly tight and restricted range of movement in all directions. After needling the scar in many different ways (and doing regular Physio/PT), this patient now reports that it feels like her shoulder is “connected to her body” again, has normal sensation and can now move her hands above her head even after her surgeon says she’d never be able to lift her hand above her head ever again.

Struggling with scar tissue? Dry needling can help.

Single leg bounds - advanced high velocity, high load plyometrics.
Definitely an exercise for advanced/well-trained athletes who have a formidable strength base. This can be used as either an end-stage rehab exercise for return to sprinting or to add to a sprinting athlete’s repertoire to teach the body to accept high forces while maintaining integrity throughout the system. Here we aim to bound as far as possible per jump.
Since the lower limb can take up to EIGHT times your body weight, executing this exercise well and safely can not only improve performance, but also prevent injury. Performance improvements primarily come from the body’s ability to absorb ground reaction forces, store this energy in our connective tissues and then release this energy to propel us forward again.
Being able to do this quickly (I.e lower contact times) is paramount for the elite athlete.
