Regular Exercise Protects Heart Health.

Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, researchers found that adults who met physical activity guidelines—at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise per week—had a 22% lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Those who exercised at least 300 minutes per week experienced a 30% lower risk.

Treatment for Cervicogenic Headaches.

Cervicogenic headaches are secondary headaches that originate from dysfunction in the cervical spine or neck structures. An umbrella review that identified 31 systematic reviews and one clinical practice guideline concluded that spinal manipulative therapy—commonly used by chiropractors—is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for managing cervicogenic headaches.

Regular Exercise Can Protect the Body from Chronic Stress.

Allostatic load refers to the cumulative physiological wear and tear on the body from chronic stress, typically measured using a combination of biomarkers—such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, inflammatory markers, and stress hormones—that reflect strain across multiple body systems. In a study that tracked more than 3,300 adults from age 31 to 46, researchers found that those who seldom or never exercised had higher allostatic load than participants who frequently met physical activity guidelines, suggesting regular exercise may help protect the body from the harmful effects of chronic stress.

Using data from the UK Biobank, researchers report that individuals who engage in a greater number of heart-healthy behaviors—including not smoking, obtaining adequate sleep, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a nutritious diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and maintaining healthy blood glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels—were about 12% less likely to develop low back pain.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of two randomized clinical trials and 18 cohort studies found that patients receiving chiropractic care for spinal pain were 73% less likely to become long-term opioid users, and the likelihood of later opioid prescription was even lower among those who initiated chiropractic treatment within 30 days of spinal pain onset.
