I never would have thought in a million years, that I could have built a team of happy, competent, intelligent and loving massage therapists in my tiny business.

I owe a big chunk of this success to my investment of coaching.

They helped me fine tune my vision for the business, my goal for our clients, the work environment, how to find like minded LMT's and getting clear with my numbers.

Coaching/Mentorship is the oxygen mask when needed in your business and life.

Never shy away from the investment, the return is much much higher.

Get EXCITED!!

This is your chance to really see if what you have to offer is aligned with what they are looking for.

Too many clients in our industry don't get their needs or expectations met because it isn't a good fit. They are left with a bad taste in their mouth (and wallet) and assume that massage therapy doesn't work or it just plain sucks!

Your initial interaction with them will save you time and save them the disappointment of their investment.

So let's put a stop to that and raise the bar of delivery in our profession and get those expectations aligned from the very beginning.

I won't let you off the hook.

STORY TIME -

Yesterday I ran into a colleague -
(In my perspective: a Colleague is a Licensed Massage Therapist that i have met, know, like and/or trust.)

Months ago after having a 2 hour conversation with her, it sounded like one particular technique fascinated her.

I mean..

she lit up over the phone.
It even sounded like she was smiling.
Her tone of voice changed to being light, her words flowed.

You could hear the excitement in her voice, the passion growing inside of her.

You could hear that she was sharing a vision with me. Her vision of how she wanted to serve the community. Make an impact.
I started to see it too.

I brought this to light before ending our conversation and leaned into the idea of, this sounds like this is what you were called and meant to do. Please be sure that you follow this.

Fast forward to yesterday -
She had been learning and taking the classes!!! And while sharing about her experience, there it was again.

She lit up and was talking through a smile the entire time. I heard the passion, the enthusiasm, everything.

Then she said something that confused me, something that literally blocked the energy in the room and the flow.

"Now lets just see if I actually can do it."

Wait.. what?
I don't get it. Its there. Its all there. We NEED practitioners like this in our industry, why would there be any doubt of IF, if she can actually do it?

Fear of the unknown. Its been so long that I have felt that way, that I almost forgot what it looked, felt and sounded like. This conversation was a reminder.

"Call me when you get to a point of needing to start spreading the word on what it is that you do." I said.

"Yea, if I don't quit by then." she replied.

"No you won't, I won't let you." I shot back at her.

Your fear of the unknown and your belief in the thoughts associated with it, will lead you to being a very very selfish human being in our world.

You have a skill that changes lives, and because you don't know what to do, or how to do it, or overwhelm yourself with doubts... you don't offer it.

This needs to stop.
I won't let you off the hook.

DON'T BE A CHEATER!!!

What am I talking about?

Plainly put, if you're getting that itch that you want to work for yourself while working for other establishments...

Don't CHEAT and Solicit their (the business) clients!

I know. I know. I know.

"But Meli, I AM the one that works on the clients and gives them the results! NOT the business!"

I get it... heard it all before.

I worked for 3 small businesses and 1 Franchise before working for myself. And within that time with those businesses... I didn't need to take ANY client contact information when I left!

Wanna know why?

1) I signed a contract
YES! It doesn't really hold up in the court system, BUT I am a woman of my word

2) The internet existed! I had my OWN website.
As long as they knew my first and last name, THEY could figure it out.

Marketing is an ever evolving system that every business needs. Our industry isn't any different.

So when you're working for an establishment that invests most of their money into finding clients, THEY have earned the clients business.

YOU... yes YOU are the cherry on top and the blessing they've been looking for.

But - 👂 Hear me out

IF it weren't for the willingness of the owner to

👉🏾 start the business
👉🏾 create the space
👉🏾 fulfill all of the financial obligations to open
👉🏾 market to bring clients in

YOU my dear... wouldn't have discovered these clients that you tend to.

Bottom line is this 👇🏾
If and when you leave that establishment, hold your word and DON'T take client information.

If clients go out of their way to ask where you are going... let them know that you have signed a contract to be discreet about that Information but the Internet does exist.

Tell them that YOU are findable!

TRUST ME ON THIS...

If they take the time to find you, they will FOLLOW!

What is it about you thats so different?

This is a great question to ask yourself as a Healthcare Provider. (Yea... thats what you are, whether you like it or not.)

There is something different that you bring to our industry and the world needs to know about it.

Start by writing down all the things you LOVE about what you do. Then think of that one treatment you gave that was fun, challenging and made you smile afterwards and just HAD to tell someone about!

Getting clear on your purpose coupled with your skill is the gateway to finding the magic in your career.

It releases the flood gates of clients that YOU deserve to serve.

It take 10,000 hours to master your craft or to become good at anything.

Get qualified and Get focused.

Ok.... I have to be honest.

This is the first time in my almost 20 years that I am hearing this and I had no idea it has been a thing.
