A short break but we’re back at it with another Friday Feature of a fantastic doula!!
Hello! I’m Stephanie Platner, a certified birth doula serving the Salt Lake Valley and surrounding areas. My own pregnancy and birth experiences were challenging, yet wonderful, and have played a forever role in who I am as a person and as a mother!

Every birth is a deeply transformative and complex journey. As a doula, my role is to be a resource and companion during this unique time, offering personalized, comprehensive care and continuous support as you navigate the joys and challenges of bringing your baby into the world.

I support and attend births in all settings, community or out-of-hospital births will always have a special place in my heart. All three of my children were born at home with the invaluable support and guidance of midwives.

While midwives offer a full spectrum of care, their primary role is to oversee the physical health and well being of a pregnant woman and her baby. Doulas complement this care by offering our own unique expertise, experience, and support throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Research consistently shows that the presence of a doula improves birth outcomes across all settings.

Time again for another Friday Feature! This week, we’re highlighting the incredible doulatog…
Nicole Hamic, Certified Doula and Professional Birth Photographer is a really unique combination of artist (she also does maternity and family photography) as well as a deeply passionate birth advocate and doula. She has been working in this capacity for the last decade serving hundreds of families. Her work has been featured in publications such as the Huff Post and has won numerous international awards for her birth photography and was SL Weekly’s Best Birth Photographer 2024. She also is a doula educator and her current collaboration is with  in their newly launched Doula Course. “I love serving families throughout their entire journey as a family providing incredible care, knowledge and resources while also capturing their unique stories through my lens and artistry. I would be honored to talk with any Birth Journey clients about helping them during this time in their lives.”

This evening I learned that I have been voted one of the best midwives, prenatal care providers, and birth centers in ‘s Best of Utah 2025. To say that I am honored is an understatement.
This year has not been easy and I have continually been riddled with anxiety, self-doubt, and a touch of burnout and yet I have persisted. Because this work is IMPORTANT. And this certainly makes it worth all the hard work and tears.
Thank you so much to those of you that voted and thank you so much for the love and support you have shown! And thanks to Kyra, I couldn’t have done it without you!! ❤️
