Tavish says: “When we are trying to quit using substances, if we make plans to use in the future we will often find that we use much sooner than anticipated. Your brain has already justified the future use so it starts justifying other things too. A plan to use (future) means you are planning to use (now). This also applies to not just substance use but any behavior you are trying to change. Make the decision that for today, the answer is no. You don’t have to commit to forever, but also don’t open the door.
