Tavish says: “When we are trying to quit using substances, if we make plans to use in the future we will often find that we use much sooner than anticipated. Your brain has already justified the future use so it starts justifying other things too. A plan to use (future) means you are planning to use (now). This also applies to not just substance use but any behavior you are trying to change. Make the decision that for today, the answer is no. You don’t have to commit to forever, but also don’t open the door.

Tavish is Certified in EMDR and has been an EMDRIA approved Consultant-in-Training (CiT) for over a year. This means she can provide consultation for 15 out of the required 20 hours for your Certification, while offering lower rates. This is a great place to ask questions and get support!

Tavish says: “While I do trust your brain when it comes to knowing how to heal with EMDR, it is also important to recognize that brains can be silly and fall into cognitive distortions or fallacies. Brains are so smart, but also so dumb. They decide they know the future (they don’t, that’s future telling), they know what other people think about us (they don’t, that’s mind reading), or they know if I didn’t pass a class then my whole life is over (it’s not, that’s all or nothing thinking). It’s ok recognize that sometimes the smartest part of us can be illogical.

Keep up hope, we know things can seem bleak right now with everything going on, but that’s why it’s so important to keep up hope. That’s how things get better. Especially if we can hope together. Community is such an important thing. Journal about the things you look forward to, talk to people about what they’re excited about. Create things to make life worth living.
Me personally, I love making these posts, and I love coming up with ideas and aesthetics to pair with. Even if only 5 people see it. Let us know what gives you hope right now.

I think finding ways to add a little whimsy to the things that maybe seem boring or harder to do makes it a whole lot easier to get things done. Because we all make New Years Resolutions, but following through can be hard! So turning into a game that you come back to frequently can give you a lot more motivation.
I’ve included one filled out to act as an example, because although you should take all your goals seriously, not all of them have to be super crucial serious things either. Like, I’m not gonna miss out on much if I don’t make it to any concerts next year, but it is something I love and miss doing. And pairing that with more helpful goals like: building a portfolio, or saving money or going back to school, makes them feel a lot more accomplishable. At least for me.
