Our Health Career Coordinators don’t stop in the summer! Mallory and Anne assisted MSU School of Nursing & Health Professions in their portion of TRIO’s summer camp. They enjoyed their time helping students learn about nurse anesthetists, pediatric nurse practitioners, and epidemiologists. What a great opportunity to reconnect with some students and make new connections with others in our area.

The Purchase Area Health Education Center hosted a career camp at Baptist Health Paducah for high school students interested in pursuing a career in the health care field.

Last week, our Health Career Coordinators, Anne and Mallory, with assistance from our Administrative Assistant, Jessie, presented Racing to the Rescue: A Simulated Overdose Crisis to other AHECs across the country at the National AHEC Organization Conference. This simulation is important for our region's students to help them learn about overdoses, understand how to communicate in a healthcare crisis, and see if they want to go into an emergency related profession. Our entire team was a part of the whole process from naming and submitting the presentation to helping carry supplies to the event the day of. Our Center Director, Missy, was even the moderator for the session. We are so proud of our team and all of the work that they have put in to teach others about this very important presentation!

Last week, we had our Purchase AHEC Health Career Academy at Baptist Health Paducah! Students got to see a wide variety of careers from pathology to surgery and beyond. Thank you, Baptist for helping make this opportunity possible for students across our region!

Preceptor Spotlight! ⭐ Dr. David Zetter from Arlington Medical Clinic is a recent recipient of our Community-Based Faculty Grant for his excellence in teaching medical students. The award was able to provide medical equipment for his clinic. We are thrilled to award Dr. Zetter and thank him for his dedication to teaching students and supporting the AHEC Mission.
Student Spotlight! ⭐Pictured with Dr. Zetter is Kristina Kaul, DO student from the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. Kristina is currently completing a Family Medicine rotation under the supervision of Dr. Zetter. We are so glad to have her here in our region completing clinical rotations!

Preceptor Spotlight! ⭐ Shandi James, with the Murray Calloway County Hospital Center for Health and Wellness, is a recent recipient of our Community-Based Faculty Grant for her excellence in teaching physical therapy students. The award provided new equipment that the therapists and students can use with their patients. We are thrilled to award Shandi and her staff and thank them for their dedication to teaching students and supporting the AHEC Mission. We’ve hit the halfway mark of the Rural Community Health Scholars and Health Professions Program. They’ve been busy learning what it’s like to practice healthcare in a rural area and wrapped up this week touring professional schools in Kentucky!
