Purchase Area Health Education Center - AHEC

Congress recently approved $47 million in FY26 funding for the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program, reinforcing a national investment in strengthening the healthcare workforce at a time of ongoing shortages, especially in primary care and rural communities.

AHECs play a vital role in building pathways into health careers, supporting clinical training, and providing continuing education for practicing professionals.

In 2024–2025 alone, AHECs:

Reached more than 621,000 participants

Engaged over 272,000 students in healthcare pathway programs

Facilitated nearly 30,000 clinical training rotations, many in primary care settings and communities with the greatest need

This continued bipartisan support helps ensure AHECs will continue to prepare the next generation of health professionals to serve where they are needed most.

This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our incredible students, the expertise and mentorship of our faculty, and the strength of a program committed to excellence in nursing education. A 94.48% NCLEX pass rate isn’t just a number; it represents graduates who are prepared, confident, and ready to provide high-quality care to patients.

This week, the entire Purchase AHEC Staff traveled to Frankfort, KY for AHEC Advocacy Day!

It was a huge success!

Students, educators, healthcare providers, and state representatives came together to highlight the value of AHEC in our communities.
This year, Rep. Moser was honored with the AHEC Champion Award.

Since the a new semester starts at Murray State and WKCTC today, it's only fitting to show what our AHEC Scholars have done over break! Our office hosted two opportunities for them to get certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. 17 of our AHEC Scholars are now prepared to help a youth in a mental health crisis! What a way to spend the break!
