**Public Service Announcement for all current and future MMAC Clients**
We, as a practice, REQUIRE your pet to be up to date on rabies vaccination to be seen at our practice. We may rarely deviate from this requirement if a pet is very sick/running a fever, but we reserve the right to do so at our discretion and following discussion with the client. This vaccination can be given at the time of your appointment, but we do not allow the option to decline and still be seen at our practice. If you elect to decline, your pet will need to be seen elsewhere.
Why? Because, rabies is a public health concern. It is a 100 percent deadly disease if contracted. If a pet who is not vaccinated bites a human, they are automatically required to be quarantined for 10 days at owner expense and if any symptoms arise within that 10 day period that are questionable for rabies, that pet must be euthanized and submitted for testing. This is a sad reality that CAN be prevented.
My goal, as always, is to keep your pets safe and healthy, but my priority is also the health and safety of myself and my employees. Anyone who has undergone rabies prophylaxis/treatment understands that it is NOT a fun process. Bites can and will happen at any time even with pets who are muzzled or not known for biting. I have 11 stitches currently that make that very clear.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy, please feel free to call us to discuss!
