Let’s have a talk about labs. I order 9 and probably soon to be 10 test panels . The Advanced Lipid Panel with cardiac inflammatory markers being the most expensive $373. Soon, I am adding the Omega check. These 10 panels tell me what is going on in your bone marrow, kidneys, liver, thyroid, blood vesssls, pancreas. I check iodine, vitamin B12, Vitamin B9, and vitamin D3. I check homocysteine- probably one of the worst inflammatory substances in your body. This holds hands literally with the methylation problematic genes. I check fasting insulin, C peptide, and your insulin resistance score is calculated from those. Omega check will tell me how much fatty fish you are eating. It will give me DHA and EPA (The Blue Zone Diet).

I would say if you follow my page, that you want to live long and healthy. Now, that it is open enrollment, know what your insurance is going to cover. I just upped my FSA to $3000 to help me cover costs because I am an investment. Those of you that know me well, hear that I have stretching at stretch lab and get a weekly massage because I type so much and clench my teeth that my arms, back, neck, jaw and head muscles are trashed. I also draw my own labs. I get what you get.

As a general rule, Quest is lab of choice. Hospital labs give discounts to employees but usually not to the general public. Even though I am also a UPMC employee my labs there are very expensive and I pay a ton out of pocket. Ulta labs has affiliate contract with Quest and you can get labs cheaper sometimes by paying cash for them upfront. You go online to Ulta Labs. Tell them what labs you want. They give you a price that may be cheaper than what your insurance will cover thru Quest. Shop for labs and price things out. All plans have stopped covering VITAMIN D3! This is the single most important vitamin in your body. You will pay out of pocket for it. 45 dollar test thru Ulta and 85 dollar test at Quest. They don’t want you to know your D3 level!! Ask yourself why. I scream from the rooftops on here all the time. 10,000 IU D3 for age 12 to adult. 5-8 yrs 5000 IU and the littles 1-2000 IU.

High deductible plan folks- put $$$ aside for your labs. Period end of story.

Middle of road plans same thing. Put $$ aside.

Even great plans not covering some labs so get pricing and put $$ aside.

You and I are the only ones concerned about your health! Live long and healthy, then you outsmart them. Keep your kids off of processed foods and wheat. Eat living foods. Lower refined sugar. If your see large amount of product in grocery aisle, shop it smart- cereal, snacks, dairy especially.

Menopausal and perimenopausal women who are losing weight: fatty tissue produces estrogen. You lose fat your estrogen goes down. That could mean atrophic vaginal symptoms. Soreness down there. You don’t always have yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis. Now that black box warning gone from hrt, estrogen creams and patches have benefit.

Men who are overweight have increased body fat. Fat produces estrogen and decreases testosterone. Yet, another reason to skinny down. 

I say it all the time, carbohydrates masculinize women and feminize men. Skinny down. At all costs, skinny down.
