Headaches are common and in many cases, rest, hydration and lifestyle adjustments help to manage them. However, it's important to recognize when a headache may be a sign of something more serious.

If you experience a sudden, severe headache or one that’s accompanied by unusual symptoms such as vision changes, confusion or fever, seek medical attention promptly.

Join us in welcoming Dr. Hassan Imtiaz. Dr. Imtiaz will be providing inpatient neurology services at NAMC and North Alabama Shoals Hospital. He received his medical degree from Rawalpindi Medical College. He completed his neurology residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, where he was recognized as the Most Hardworking Resident and served on the Editorial Board of the department newsletter. He has presented at national and international neurology meetings on topics including status epilepticus, spinal cord infarction, and rare neurologic disorders. Dr. Imtiaz is also an active educator and mentor, contributing to resident education and training.

Join us in welcoming Dr. Javardo H. McIntosh. Dr. McIntosh received his medical degree from the University of the West Indies Faculty of Medical Sciences. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Wayne State University - Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. He remained in Detroit to complete a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at Henry Ford Hospital. Dr. McIntosh treats disorders of the lungs and respiratory system, including pneumonia, tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema.

Our Story

Today, the 178-bed, general acute care facility boasts spacious, private rooms for all patients as well as a 24-hour emergency department; mediccal/surgical inpatient units; and in intensive care and short-stay surgery units. Shoals Hospital also operates the area's only acute rehabilitation facility, the J.W. Sommer Rehabilitation Unit, and the Senior Care Center, the Shoals' only psychiatric unit dedicated to our senior adults.
