...and then she FLEW!
Who flew? Why? Where? Well....me!
My name is Kelly and I am a single mother of 20 years. I am an only child who cared for, lost and misses both my parents every single day. I am also a photographer and owner of my own business. Independent, a bit strong willed, compassionate, crazy sense of humor, morning HATER, a wee bit OCD and wide-open woman are probably a few ways my friends would describe me.
So, that’s me. Where does the flying come in? Hmmmm...well that’s the real story. From 2003 until 2012 we watched my mother fight lung cancer along with several heart attacks. We were with her every step of the way. She was the strongest person I am sure I will ever know. In 2011 when we were planning Christmas here at the beach my sweet daddy drove down to tell us in person that we would have to go to NC for the holidays. My daughter was 11 at the time and we would be packing up and spending Christmas in NC....at Beacon Place Hospice Care. We spent the next 4 months on the road back and forth biweekly to be with my mother and help my daddy (yes, I am a grown woman who says daddy). My mother’s strength proved to be more than any Dr. realized and she held on, even rallying and coming home a few times, until we lost her in April of 2012. Our hearts were broken.
Two weeks after losing my mom, we were back home and received a phone call that my father was in the hospital. It was my daddy himself that called from the ER what does that tell you about him? He’d had a heart attack. We were in shock. Disbelief. I still don’t remember driving to Greensboro, but I did so with my daughter immediately. After open heart surgery a week later, we prayed for the best and were blessed with a great outcome.
