Shout out to Apollo Neuroscience for great customer support.

My Neuro started rattling randomly after a few months of use.

I contacted them not expecting much of anything, but they immediately told me it wasn’t supposed to do that and offered to replace it for free, even sending me a shipping label.

They shipped the new one the next day after I returned it and it works like new.

I also got an idea from their customer support reps that I’m implementing in my own business. 😅

Unlike ŌURA who has consistently terrible customer service, and doesn’t listen to their customers.

If you Google “Oura daytime stress reading Reddit” and read all the Reddit threads complaining correctly about how useless this feature is… and how their response is to ignore it or “consider your feedback” (which is their answer for everything) then never do anything about it.

They won’t even let you turn it off or hide it so it doesn’t waste your battery despite numerous people telling them this is a problem.

Instead of fixing all their broken features they keep pumping out new useless ones so you have a bunch of buggy features instead of a few really good ones.

They also recently started using a crappy ai bot to gatekeep their customer support that is super annoying.

Hopefully one day Apollo will make tracking wearables, or maybe volunteer to train Ouras customer service.

Anyway rant over. Good job Apollo.

Always seek medical advice from a Dr. before making any decisions about your health…

…but also be just as critical of your choice of medical professionals.

How many of us have a doctor that is less fit than them and likely less healthy?

I know I do.

I bet my doctor can’t do 10 pushups and eats garbage every day.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find one locally that’s much better.

That’s a big part of why I’ve taken it into my own hands and why I am doing this.

Analyze and optimize everything.

It’s important not to hand wave away people’s situations.

If someone tells you they don’t have time to walk 20,000 steps a day… consider how that may be true.

They may work in a cubicle and be a single parent… that makes it very difficult for them and instead of telling them to suck it up and find a way it would be better to find small ways to help them make progress instead of feeling like they can’t try because circumstances keep them from being perfect.

This applies to me too.

I get a lot of benefit from my boxing and Muay Thai training.

But there is a downside.

Classes are at either 10am est or 6pm est.

That leave me with a few options, with different downsides.

I can get up super early and work from like 4am to 9am then train at 10am.

The downsides are that this goes against my natural chronotype for sleep so the work I do won’t be as high caliber and my sleep won’t be as good. It’s also key business hours because training from 10-11 then home, shower, eat etc… puts me at 1pm before I can do anything else productive.

If I do a 6pm class I can get up at a time that betters fits my biology, get a full day of work in, and have a hard stop time to keep me from working all night.

The downside is this means not getting home until 7-8pm and having to eat dinner much later than I’d like (and I do t want to skip it because I’m ravenous after training) which affects my recovery time and sleep as shown here.

Still though that’s the better of the two scenarios for me so that’s what I do.

It isn’t perfect, but it’s better than not doing it at all.

Optimize as much as you can but don’t
let perfect keep you from progress

This is the most personal and vulnerable video I've ever made.

It's the story of how I spent Memorial Day 2022 in the ER, and how I turned that around in less than 2 years... and is the origin behind my NeuraEdge brand.

This was hard for me to make, so I hope you get something from it.

Check it out at the link in the comment.

Now it was Eight Sleep turn to screw me out of a night of data.

I will say though I got a response from their support instantly at 10am on a Sunday morning and gave me several things to try so they definitely lap ŌURA in the support department.

One of the things I don’t like about ŌURA is the battery life is terrible and the notifications don’t work right.

This is an hour before I woke up… and now I don’t have a nights worth of data because they didn’t send me a proper notification and I didn’t think to check since it’s only been a day and a half since I charged it.

I’ve told them twice before that my ring didn’t hold a proper charge and instead of take my word for it they made me go through a bunch of tests that take days, and still refused to accept that I was right.

(I honestly think their useless daytime stress widget… which I’ve also brought issues with to their attention and was blown off… drain the battery a lot faster because it’s on all day)

I’m trying to use this for a public case study here that would clearly benefit them but after losing yet another night of data because they refuse to accept responsibility or be of help I may just switch to Whoop for the remainder of it.

What do you think? Abandon it after 5 years and switch? Or just accept that occasionally I’ll lose data of if I don’t fully charge it every day?

Oura what do you suggest?

I’m basically crushing everything now (though RHR isn’t 100% back to my normal but it’s getting closer).

I’m also feeling more alert and energized than I have e in years.

I recorded a video today on why I’m doing all this and where it started etc… it should be done in a few days once the editor touches it up.

A pattern I’ve noticed that makes me laugh.

One of the things Oura track is your daytime stress levels.

They don’t define stress the way most of us do though.

Broadly speaking they consider stress to be changes in your HRV (Though they have a longer explanation) and they don’t consider all stress bad.

I have noticed a correlation between it being in the restored zone and how good the other things I track do (RHR etc…) except one quirk.

Most Saturday nights I go to a movie 🎥

(In the theater; please go support them)

Whenever I do my stress levels peak and stay there for a while after.

Doesn’t matter what kind of movie or if I enjoy it or not (I enjoy movies even when they suck)

But every time the chart spikes like this… even though I enjoy it.

I assume it’s because of the loud sounds bright screen and general sensory deprivation.

But it makes me remember that tracking works better when you apply some “yeah but” thinking to it.

Data writes the outline but the “yeah but” tells the story.

Repost from NeuraEdge Facebook group.

About 99% back to normal.

I’m crushing readiness and sleep scores now and was able to turn off rest mode, and resilience score has climbed every day.

I’m also back to training 4 days a week.

RHR continues to improve as well though it’s still 5-6 points higher than it was before I got sick. But I believe that because I got out of shape while I wasn’t training.

This took almost exactly a month. Just like last time I got sick.

Now I can finally start making the kind of content and documentation I wanted to with this project.

Upcoming videos;

Why I’m doing this.

Full recap of blood panel results and how I’m working to improve them.

Additional supplements I’m taking.

Diet changes.

Exercise

Device reviews

And a few more.

If you have any questions or suggestions please let me know.

And let me know how you’re doing as well.

Update:

Not much to update. I didn't get to train much this week because... I lost my car key and couldn't get there without a $100 round trip Uber 🤣

Sleep and readiness numbers have continued to improve though.

I haven't gotten RHR back to where it was but it is trending in the right direction.

Below is a feature that ŌURA has that show your resilience on a scale of Limited to Exceptional.

I had been in the Exceptional range for a long time before plummeting all the way down to Limited. I am now back up to Adequate and expect to be at Strong within a week or so.

I also have 2 videos planned for the next week... 1 talking about when I started taking all of this seriously, where it began, and the entire "journey" (I feel like that term is overused) until now.

The other being a review of the bloodwork I had done, and what I've been doing to improve on it.

So that's where I'm at.

Was excited to see how much rest I would get last night after going back to boxing for the first time in 2 weeks...
..and Oura didn't record my score despite not sending me a low battery warning. 🙄

EightSleep gave me a 100... but they tend to be a bit more forgiving in my experience.

That said I didn't "feel" like I slept that well and ended up taking a nap this afternoon, and am skipping Muay Thai tonight and instead will go for a walk.

As for boxing I felt pretty good there though I could tell my stamina wasn't where it used to be but that's normal after along time away...

Overall things are trending in the right direction I just need to stay consistent.

How's everyone else doing?
