We join together as an agency in uplifting Officer Tatum and his family with love and prayers. His wife, Taylor, passed away Sunday after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Taylor’s light, strength, and grace were an inspiration to all who knew her. Taylor and her family’s unwavering faith has been a powerful testament throughout her fight. Please keep the Tatum family close in your hearts.

For those who have reached out about ways to support the Tatum Family.

💔🕊️ A MOTHER’S LOVE. A DAUGHTER’S INNOCENCE. TWO LIVES STOLEN IN SILENCE.
📍 Conway, South Carolina — September 2020

👩🏽‍✈️ Tasjunique Graham, lovingly known as Nique, overcame a childhood of hardship. At just 5 years old, both her parents went to prison, and her grandparents stepped in to raise her. She graduated high school, joined the National Guard, and was on her way to becoming a sergeant.

👶🏽 Nique gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Bailey Simon. They were inseparable. A strong mother and her sweet baby girl. But their journey was cut short in the most violent way imaginable.

🚔 On September 28, 2020, around 7:30 p.m., police responded to Suggs Street in Conway, South Carolina. Inside the home, they found 23-year-old Nique and her 3-year-old daughter, Bailey, both shot in the head.

🚑 Bailey was rushed to the Medical University of South Carolina, where she held on for two more days. On September 30, the light in her tiny body faded.

💔 “We had faith in her; we surely did,” said Nique’s sister, Nay Graham. “We needed Bailey to make it to be OK, but whenever she didn’t make it, that was like the end for us. That was a wrap.”

🪟 Only two family members were allowed in Bailey’s room. Her grandparents, Joe Graham and Matasha Washington, held their granddaughter in their arms during her final moments… then lifted her body to the hospital window so the family waiting outside could say goodbye. That was the moment they knew. She was gone.

🕯️ The brutal ex*****on of a young mother and her child remains unsolved.

🕵🏽‍♀️ The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever did this.

SMOKE INHALATION

If your kiddo has asthma or allergies and has an exacerbation due to our local wildfires, please know that Kid Care is here to help in any way.

Smoke inhalation is a HUGE irritant for asthma and allergies.

Smoke inhalation can be especially harmful to children, particularly those with asthma or allergies. The effects of smoke exposure can exacerbate their existing respiratory issues, leading to several potential health problems:
1. Increased Asthma Symptoms: Smoke irritates the airways, causing inflammation and tightening of the muscles around the airways. This can lead to more frequent and severe asthma attacks, with symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.
2. Worsening Allergies: For children with allergies, smoke can increase sensitivity to allergens like pollen, pet dander, or mold. Smoke particles can aggravate allergic reactions, leading to increased nasal congestion, sneezing, and itchy or watery eyes.

Recommendations for Parents:
• Limit Exposure: Keep children indoors when there is smoke in the air, such as during wildfires or in areas with high pollution.
• Use Air Purifiers: Consider using HEPA air purifiers in the home to reduce indoor smoke particles.
• Consult a Doctor: If a child is exposed to smoke and experiences worsening asthma or allergy symptoms, it’s important to consult a healthcare provider. They may need adjustments to their asthma medication or other treatments.
• Create an Emergency Plan: Have a plan in place for asthma attacks, including having medications (e.g., rescue inhalers) on hand and knowing when to seek medical attention.

Kid Care is equipped with nebulizers and oxygen if any respiratory symptoms arise in your kiddo from mild smoke inhalation. If respiratory distress is of concern or excessive smoke inhalation, please utilize our local emergency room.
