Up early watching news about flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Today's coffee mug shoutout goes to Dr. Larry Laurich, podiatrist in the area. His coffee mug is the most unique in my collection.

It's a given that everyday our feet take stress and damage.

Following this one tip can help maintain a healthy gait. Unfortunately, most are ignoring this simple movement which can benefit everyone.

The foot is intricate, holding 28 bones, and it's function is purposeful. The joints form a stabilizing column extending upwards. Place one abnormality in the chain, and dysfunction follows. This can affect the hips, spine, shoulders, and even the neck.

With sit down jobs, poor sleeping posture, and decreased activity, our motion is being limited. This is creating creeping dysfunction. In the study of podiatry there is one abnormality is so destructive it has it's own sinister name. It is called "The Root of All Evil." That is how significant this problem can be, and it affects the majority of our population.

So what can you do?

Stretch your calf muscles.

That's it. Tight calf muscles aggravate flat feet and fatigue. Thirty seconds a side throughout the day can help decrease this fatigue and foot pain, and can even improve posture.

In reality, the lower extremity is complicated, but this tip can help prevent a wide range of problems.

PLANTER FASCIITIS
The plantar fascia is the flat band of tissue (ligament) that connects your heel bone to your toes. It supports the arch of your foot. If you strain your plantar fascia, it gets weak, swollen, and irritated (inflamed). Then your heel or the bottom of your foot hurts when you stand or walk.
