March kicks off Sleep Apnea Awareness Month!

Did you know that more than 25 MILLION American adults suffer from sleep apnea?! Most people associate sleep apnea with snoring and insomnia, however there are also some very serious oral consequences that result from sleep apnea.

Three main concerns for those who suffer from sleep apnea are TMJ issues, mouth breathing and grinding of teeth. All of these conditions can lead to an increased risk of dry mouth, wide spread decay, and periodontal disease. Ultimately these conditions can lead to tooth loss!

Dr. T’s easy-going nature, dedication to her patients, and true team-first mindset make her such a joy to work with. Whether she’s providing exceptional care in the operatory or jumping in to help a hygienist with X-rays or perio charting, she embodies what it means to be a supportive and compassionate provider.

Beyond the office, Dr. T is also a devoted mom to two wonderful little girls, and she brings that same warmth, patience, and kindness into everything she does. She is deeply adored by her patients and coworkers alike, and we are so grateful for the heart she brings to our practice every day.

People with higher blood sugar levels are more likely to have tooth decay and dental plaque, a study by Japanese researchers has shown.

High blood glucose doesn’t only affect the body systemically. Excess sugar can enter saliva, feeding acid-producing bacteria that weaken enamel and accelerate plaque formation and cavity development.

The study found that sustained high blood sugar alters the oral microbiome, increasing cavity-associated bacteria. Poor glycemic control was linked to higher salivary sugar levels and greater tooth decay risk in adults.

Clinically, this reinforces that blood sugar control is also an oral health strategy. Regular dental checkups, metabolic control, and personalized oral hygiene can reduce plaque, dental caries, and long-term oral–systemic complications.

Time for another Transformation Tuesday!! ✨

Today’s patient came to us with a desire to unify the aesthetics of their smile. With multiple other crowned teeth completed, our patient was ready to complete their transformation. By placing crowns on #8 and #9, we were able to aesthetically cover the uncomfortable and noticeable gum recession AND replace the large worn filling material that was weakening the strength of the teeth. In this case, crowns were both of cosmetic AND functional improvement!

✨ Behind the Mask Monday ✨
Today we’re excited to spotlight Yvette, one of our amazing dental assistants here at Gentle Dental Care! 🦷✨

Yvette has been Dr. Jangula’s trusted chairside assistant for the past three years and brings an impressive 20 years of experience to our team!! Yvette completed her Dental Assisting Certification with Expanded Functions at Carrington College, and her skill, knowledge, and calming presence truly shine in everything she does.

When asked what her favorite part of being a dental assistant is, Yvette responed with, “Interacting with patients and doing hands-on temporary crowns, and informing patients on everything. I love bringing comfort and care to every patient I meet. I enjoy when a patient is fearful at the start of an appointment and at the end they say it was a great experience! I love patients leaving happy and confident! It always reminds me why I love what I do every day!”

Outside the office, Yvette is a mom of two, a proud dog owner, and an Idaho native who grew up in Nampa before moving to Caldwell in 2023. She enjoys the peace found in life’s simple moments—taking walks with her dog, spending quality time with family, decorating her home for the holidays, watching her favorite TV shows, and listening to the popular “Crime Junkie” podcast.

We’re so grateful to have Yvette as part of the Gentle Dental Care family. Her compassion, experience, and dedication make a lasting difference for our patients every single day! 💙

“Can my gums grow back?!”

Not a day goes by that this question is not asked in our office! “Unfortunately, receding gums cannot grow back naturally. This is because the gum tissue is not able to regenerate like other tissues in the body. Once damage is done to the gums it cannot be reversed. However, there are measures you can take to stop the problem from worsening and there are treatments available for severe cases.”
