Ever wonder how exactly we “read” your xrays?! Check out this breakdown of what we see! 👇🏻

1. What a healthy tooth looks like! No dark triangles in between teeth. We love this! 🎉

2. Here is what we refer to as “white spot lesions” where bacteria was once forming and starting to gear up form a cavity. Thanks to fluoride and increased home-care, this risky area has remineralized and is stable for the time being. No treatment is necessary at this point. You may hear us say we are “watching” this area.

3. Bacteria has now progressed beyond the enamel and into the dentin. These are cavities that will require fillings.

4. The cavity has progressed through the dentin into the pulp. This tooth will most likely need a root-canal to restore it’s health.

5. The decay is deep into the pulp and now has an abscess at the root. This tooth will require either a root canal or extraction as the tooth’s nerve is dead and there is almost certainly a large portion of the tooth missing.

6. These are what we refer to as “ root caries”. Just as the name implies, root caries are cavities that form on the root surface of the tooth as opposed to the enamel on the crown portion. Root caries can be especially concerning as they can progress much quicker and deeper, causing significant damage in a short period of time.

If you have any further questions about the status of your current oral standings when it comes to decay, please let your dental professional know!

Twelve years ago we gained the gem of all gems when MiKayla joined our office. Today we are thrilled to be celebrating her anniversary!! 🎉

As one of the most seasoned hygienists at our office, saying that MiKayla is an integral part of our practice would be an understatement. From day one, MiKayla has brought dedication, hard work, and a positive spirit to everything she does. On top
of her responsibilities as one of our hygiene providers, MiKayla also takes on the role as our OSHA compliance officer (which is a full time job in itself). MiKayla gives her all and we are SO lucky to have her!

Thank you for being such a valued member of the team. Here’s to the past 12 years — and to many more ahead! 🎉
