Did you know that it is estimated 3 out of every 4 American adults has gingivitis?!

Gingivitis is the earliest form of gum disease, presenting as inflamed red gums that bleed easily. Gingivitis is caused from plaque/tartar accumulation that houses harmful bacteria that irritates the gums.

The good thing is gingivitis is REVERSIBLE with improved home care and reduction of bacteria. If the bacteria is not properly removed, however, it can progress into periodontal disease. Periodontal disease affects the gums, bone and the connective tissue that holds teeth in place. Eventually so much bone can be effected that teeth may become loose and fall out/abscess. Periodontal disease is also linked to many systemic diseases.

If you are in the 75% of adults battling gingivitis, here are the best ways to reverse it.

1. Brushing with a soft bristles toothbrush twice a day for 2 minutes each time.
2. Flossing and using interproximal aids to clean in between teeth (waterpiks, proxy brush) after meals.
3. Visiting the dentist atleast twice a year for cleanings.
4. Getting any cavities or unrestored dental needs completed.
5. Eating a well rounded diet. Bacteria feeds on sugar and can reproduce faster with higher sugared diet. Proper water hydration is also key.

Please let your dental provider know if you have any questions or concerns in regard to your gingival health.

Time for another Transformation Tuesday!! ✨

This incredible case came to us with an underlying genetic condition that caused the enamel to separate from the dentin underneath. Over time, this resulted in significant discoloration, sensitivity, and erosion affecting most of the patient’s teeth.

While this smile journey isn’t complete just yet and will require additional work toward a full mouth reconstruction, it’s already a powerful example of what can happen when you trust the process. 🙌

Feeling overwhelmed by where to start? You’re not alone—and we’re here to help every step of the way. Give us a call today and let’s bring your transformation to life. No case is too big or too small!

Most parents think brushing and flossing are mainly about preventing cavities.

But in some children, oral health can affect something far beyond the mouth — the heart.

The mouth naturally contains hundreds of types of bacteria. When teeth and gums are healthy, these microbes usually stay under control. However, untreated cavities, gum inflammation, or poor oral hygiene can allow harmful bacteria to multiply and occasionally enter the bloodstream, especially during everyday activities like brushing or chewing.

For most healthy children, the immune system quickly clears these bacteria. But in children with certain heart conditions — such as congenital heart defects, prosthetic heart valves, or surgically repaired heart tissue — circulating bacteria can sometimes attach to vulnerable areas inside the heart.

This may lead to infective endocarditis, a rare but serious infection of the inner lining of the heart.

Although uncommon, infective endocarditis can require intensive medical care, including long courses of intravenous antibiotics and sometimes heart surgery. Because of this risk, pediatric cardiologists and dentists often work closely together to identify children who may need additional precautions during dental treatment.

The encouraging news is that prevention begins with simple daily habits.

Regular brushing and flossing, routine dental checkups, and limiting frequent sugary snacks help control harmful oral bacteria. For children with certain heart conditions, doctors may also recommend preventive antibiotics before specific dental procedures to reduce the risk of infection.

In other words, protecting a child’s mouth is also part of protecting their heart.

Oral health is not separate from overall health — and small daily habits can play an important role in keeping the entire body healthy.
