For many children, AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) opens the door to connection, expression, and truly being understood. Right now, some popular AAC apps are offering limited-time pricing, making it a great opportunity for families to get started.

If you’ve been considering AAC, this can be a meaningful first step. Knowing how to use AAC is just as important as having no access to it. Our speech therapy team is here to help you choose the right by system, support your child’s communication, and guide you every step of the way.

Did you know that your child can skip sippy cups? Sippy cups are often seen as a “must-have” for toddlers and they can be convenient when you’re on the go, but prolonged use could impact your little one’s oral motor and speech development.

The good news? You can introduce an open cup and straw cup to your child to help build the foundation for stronger oral motor coordination and support independence at mealtimes! You can introduce an open cup as early as 6 months of age and can introduce a straw cup as early as 9 months of age.

If you’re unsure what’s appropriate for your child, let’s connect! Our team can help guide you on what works best for your child’s skills!

Do pacifiers cause speech delays?

Not necessarily. It depends on how AND how often they’re used.

Occasional use for sleep and soothing is usually fine! Frequent or prolonged use, especially past the age of 2, can limit opportunities to practice important speech skills.

Think of it like this: using a pacifier less often offers MORE time for your child to play with sounds, imitate words, and develop important language foundations.

If you need support with possibly delayed speech or heavy pacifier use, our team can help! Reach out to learn more about our services!

If your child is pulling you by the hand to get something, that’s a form of communication. They’re showing you what they want or need, even when they might not yet have the words to tell you.

As speech therapists, we see this as an important step in communication development. From here, we can help your child use more gestures, sounds, and words.

If you are noticing this form of communication at home and are curious about next steps, we’re here to help! Reach out to schedule a free speech screening with a member of our team!

Is your toddler eating enough?

It is one of the most common questions parents have! Our team of feeding therapists often looks at more than just how much or what your child is eating.

We often ask questions like:
✔️ What does snack time look like throughout the day?
✔️ Is your child drinking too much milk or drinks in their day?
✔️ Has your pediatrician expressed concerns about your child’s growth?

These questions help our team understand the patterns and routines that may play a role in how your child eats. If you have concerns about your child’s eating, you are not alone. Our team is here to support you every step of the way! Reach out to learn more about our services.

World Autism Acceptance Day is a reminder that inclusion begins with small, intentional actions. It’s about understanding and showing up with empathy.

Inclusion isn’t about perfection. It’s about respecting sensory needs and preferences, celebrating differences, and honoring each person’s unique needs and communication styles.

Object imitation might look like a simple skill, but it is one of your child’s most powerful building blocks for learning.

When your child copies how you play, they’re developing skills that go far beyond play:
✔️ Attention and problem-solving
✔️ Understanding how objects work
✔️ Foundations for social interaction and language

If your child isn’t imitating yet or you have concerns, early support can make all the difference! We’re here to help with individualized strategies and guidance!

📌 SAVE this resource if you have concerns about your child’s speech development!

It is common for your child to produce sound errors as they develop their speech or articulation skills. You may hear your child use a pattern of sound errors, which we call a phonological process. Phonological processes are patterns of sound errors that typically developing children use to simplify their speech as they are learning to talk.

Many of these patterns will resolve on their own, BUT If they persist beyond the typical age range or begin to interfere significantly with your ability to understand what your child is saying, a speech-language pathologist can help!

If you have concerns about your child’s articulation and/or language skills, call our office today to schedule a FREE screening!
