Athlete’s foot, yeast infection, toenail fungus, jock itch, ringworm… these are common fungal infections, but the problem is not only at the site of the lesion… these are systemic, whole body issues showing up in a localized area.
Symptoms are the language of the body, and these infections (as well as bacterial and viral infections) are your body’s way of telling you that there’s a bigger issue such as:
-blood sugar issues
-An imbalance of the gut bacteria
-weakened immune system
-adrenal dysfunction and more
Treat the root cause, do the work to bring the body back into harmony

Midweek check-in.

How’s your body actually doing today?

Not your productivity.
Not your to-do list.

Just your nervous system, your energy, your sleep.

Health isn’t built on all-or-nothing weeks - it’s built on small, consistent resets.

Take 5 minutes today. Breathe. Hydrate. Move a little.

That counts. 👌

Tuesday reminder:

You don’t need to overhaul your entire life to improve your health. You just need to make a few better choices consistently.

Drink more water than you did yesterday.
Move your body, even if it’s just a walk.
Fuel yourself with foods that actually support your energy.
Go to bed knowing you did something for your health today.

Progress doesn’t come from extremes or quick fixes. It comes from showing up, day after day, and doing the simple things well.

Strong bodies, clear minds, and sustainable health are built one small decision at a time.

🌲 Did You Know Trees Are Good for Your Health?

They really are - and in more ways than most people realize.

Take Florida’s Spanish moss, for example. While often mentioned in folk medicine, it’s best known today as a natural air-quality indicator.

The good news?

You don’t need to go to Florida to benefit from nature.

Idaho is full of trees that support health in simple, practical ways!

🌲 Ponderosa Pine
• One of Idaho’s staples
• High in vitamin C
• Supports immune health
• Naturally antibacterial (traditionally used for minor cuts and skin protection)
• Helps reduce stress
• Improves mental clarity
⚠️ Always identify species correctly, as some evergreens are toxic

🌲 Lodgepole Pine
• Common in central and northern Idaho
• Helps ease sore joints
• Supports minor skin irritation relief
• Supports lung health
• Helps lower stress hormones

🌳 Quaking Aspen
• Easy to spot in Idaho’s mountain regions
• Traditionally used for pain and inflammation
• Calms the nervous system

🌳 Cottonwood
• Found near rivers and low-lying areas
• Anti-inflammatory properties
• Helpful for joint and muscle discomfort
• Supports skin health

🌲 Western Juniper
• More common in southern Idaho
• Supports digestion
• Naturally antimicrobial
• Grounding, stress-reducing scent
⚠️ Not recommended during pregnancy or for those with kidney concerns

🌲 The Idaho Advantage
• Forests release natural compounds that support immune function
• Helps lower blood pressure
• Improves sleep
• Reduces stress

Sometimes the most effective medicine is fresh air, movement, and time outside.

You don’t need exotic plants or the latest wellness trends.

Idaho’s trees - when used properly, or simply spent time around - already do a lot of the work.

Happy President’s Day 🇺🇸

Leadership starts with taking responsibility for ourselves - our health, our choices, and how we show up for others.

When we prioritize health, balance, and personal responsibility, we build a stronger future for ourselves and the generations ahead. Health is a foundation of freedom, and a healthy nation begins with healthy individuals.

Strong bodies. Clear minds. Resilient communities.

Wishing everyone a meaningful day of reflection.

New foam wedges, Get em’ while they’re hot!

For your convenience, foam wedges are back in the clinic.

When placed properly beneath the hips, these wedges can stimulate the parasympathetic nerves of the lower spine, shifting your body into more of a state of rest digest and heal. More on this coming soon.

🧄 Why Garlic Belongs in Your Kitchen

Garlic has been used for generations, and for good reason. It’s a simple, everyday food that does more than just add flavor.

Garlic can help support:
• The immune system
• Heart health
• Healthy blood pressure and cholesterol
• The body’s natural defense against germs

For the most benefit, crush or chop garlic and let it sit a few minutes before cooking. That helps activate the compounds that make it work.

Like most good things, garlic works best when used regularly and as part of a balanced diet, not as a miracle cure.

Simple food. Real benefits.

Winter can be tough on the body, with shorter days, colder weather, less movement, and more stress can all add up.

Staying healthy this season is about being intentional with the basics and listening to your body.

A few key reminders for winter wellness:
• Keep moving. Even light daily movement helps circulation, joint health, and mental well-being. It doesn’t have to be intense. Consistency matters more than intensity.
• Support your immune system. Prioritize sleep, hydration, and nutrient-dense foods. These are often overlooked but make a huge difference.
• Don’t ignore aches and stiffness. Cold weather can amplify pain and tension. Addressing small issues early can prevent bigger problems later.
• Mind your posture and habits. More time indoors often means more screen time. Take breaks, stretch, and stay mindful of alignment.
• Check in on your mental health. Winter blues are real. Sunlight, when possible, routine, and connection, all help.
• Increase your vitamin D intake. Vitamin D has been known to decrease the winter blues and improve mental health.

Winter is a season to care for your body, not push it into burnout. Small, consistent habits now can set you up to feel stronger and healthier come spring.

Stay warm, stay active, and take care of yourself this week.

FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE: what is it? What should you look for in a functional medicine practitioner?
I love functional medicine, but on its own, the term doesn’t mean a whole lot because functional medicine trainings can be dramatically different. As such, it’s important to take a closer look at credentials and experience.
