Researchers Utilize Earplugs for Musicians’ Program

About 40 million adults in the United States ages 20 to 69 have noise-induced hearing loss. This is caused by exposure to loud sounds, either from a sudden loud noise like a firework or repeated exposure to loud sounds over time, like a lawn mower.

For musicians, that means reducing the level of sounds without distorting the instrument’s musical characteristics; for referees, that means blocking out the impulsive parts of the whistle sound, but retaining speech sounds.

I’ve had hearing aids for 30 years from occupational hearing loss. We moved back to Napa and was struggling to find a hearing provider. Thankfully the insurance company assigned me to Advanced Instruments. One of my aids had failed and it’s a struggle to hear with only one. Amanda sent it back to Oticon and we received a placement. Jessica did a hearing test and reprogrammed my hearing aids. They are now working better than before and feel like my hearing is improved. As with most of the reviews, Jessica and Amanda are very compassionate and motivated to help their clients hear better. Having had many years of experience with multiple hearing providers, you will not be able to find a better practice than Advanced Instruments. I highly recommend them for both their professional expertise and personal qualities.

How do I know if I have hearing loss?

Because hearing loss can come on gradually, it’s often the people around you who notice your hearing problems before you do. Typically, it takes people an average of seven years to seek treatment. If you exhibit the following symptoms, consider visiting a hearing instrument specialist here:

Research Demonstrates Disparity in Hearing Aid Access

Countries with the highest reported levels of hearing loss also have the lowest reported use of hearing aids, finds international research published in the open access journal BMJ Global Health.

Hearing loss is associated with an array of problems in adults. These include depression, loneliness, social isolation, falls and fall-related injuries, postoperative complications, cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline and even death, they point out.
