💕 Happy Valentine’s Day! Love is in the air, and today we’re sharing a resident love story that began after two years of riding the same bus—when a familiar face suddenly felt new.

Meet Dorothy. “In the fall of 1948, on the school bus ride home, Richard looked across the aisle and noticed a geometry book on my lap. Since math was his favorite subject, he asked if I liked math. I said yes.

We talked a little, and he asked my name. When he got home, he told his family he had met a new girl on the bus. His oldest sister laughed and said, ‘You’ve been riding that bus with her for two years.’"

But that was the day Richard met Dorothy—and the beginning of a love that lasted the rest of his life.

This Valentine’s Day, residents were invited to share their love stories—from unexpected introductions to the moments that turned into a lifetime together. Today, we’re delighted to share Judy and Brian’s story.

“Brian and I worked for the same company, just in different offices. A mutual friend thought we would be ‘perfect for each other.’ Whenever Brian was in town and there was a happy hour after work, an empty chair would magically open up right next to me when he arrived. I guess our friend was right—we’ll be celebrating our 53rd anniversary this May.”

Most recently, he served as Assistant Executive Director at a community in Berkeley, where he partnered closely with residents, families, and staff to support high‑quality care and seamless operations.
