🌿 REAL Food February ~ Culinary Herbs 🌿

We can't talk about REAL food without talkin' about flava! Nothing takes fresh, whole foods to the next level better than culinary herbs! We can't live without 'em!

We're SOOO dedicated to having fresh herbs to cook with that we travel with this herb wall when we're on the move in the Zamora Vardo!

Our faves that don't mind the road trips are rosemary, chives, thyme, oregano, sage, lavender, and mint.

The ones that you'll always find in our pantry are turmeric, ginger, cumin, dill, cinnamon, curry blends, and plenty of fresh garlic.

And we could go on all day about the plethora of health benefits that these multitasking botanicals provide! Talk about food being our medicine! 💥

⭐️ What are some of your favorite culinary herbs? How do you like to use them?

These pancakes are SOOO good! 💫 Are you following our sister page Create Real Wellness for all the REAL Food February gems this month?

Do you feel that committing to a healthier, REAL food path means giving up everything you love? I get it! It's a super common concern.

Life IS meant to be savored! Food is not only nourishment for our bodies but for our souls as well. For generations food has been at the center of family gatherings, celebrations, and community festivities. It's a beautiful part of our social web!

Trouble is that it feels so good to be in celebration mode that we want to do it all the time, right?

When we decide that we need to nourish ourselves on a deeper level we need to be open to a certain amount of change. Whether we have specific health goals, or we have an imbalance or illness that we have the opportunity to shift with healthier habits, we can't keep fueling our bodies the way we have been and expect different results, right?

So how do we maintain the idea that life's meant to be savored AND that we might need to reign it in a bit? COMPROMISE

1. If we are nourishing ourselves with fresh, whole, REAL foods the majority of the time then those "indulgences" don't take such a physical toll.

2. There are plenty of ways to make your favorite celebratory or "comfort foods" with REAL food ingredients.

Folks have to find the balance that's right for them. It's largely dependent on where you're starting healthwise and what your goals are, but nourishing yourself more deeply doesn't have to = deprivation.

This is why I was excited to find delicious, nourishing approaches to a dish that I associate with childhood nostalgia: pancakes! Birthday breakfasts, weekends with grandparents. Pancakes = happiness in my brain :)

Years ago when I started eating less refined grains, and especially since I stopped eating gluten, pancakes largely became a food of the past.

Now, every once in a while, I'll whip up a batch of fluffy coconut flour pancakes! (Recipe below.) Since low glycemic is my jam I omit the honey but I make up for it with a drizzle of coconut nectar. Completely satisfies the craving AND they're made with nourishing ingredients! Win win!

See you there! 💫

Happy day #2 of REAL Food February! 🎉

Did anyone see the full moon last night? This month is FULL of possibility and we're bursting to share our 30 years of wellness education and lived experience with you!

So what is REAL food anyway?

It means coming back to basics and eating more fresh foods closer to the form they naturally occur in. This means that their nutrients are more plentiful and our bodies actually feel more satisfied by eating less because they're getting what they need to thrive : )

Sounds pretty simple, right? IT IS. Where it can get complicated is in the implementation. Folks tend to get caught up in the details when they feel inspired to move in a healthier direction.

“Should I be vegan?”

“Should I try keto?”

“Should I be intermittent fasting?”

In most cases this is not only putting the horse before the cart, it's also assuming that there is a secret code to wellness.

WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFULLY, BIOCHEMICALLY UNIQUE! We come to the table with different genetics, health histories, ways of handling stress, and present physical expressions meaning that there's no magic "diet" or approach to eating that is going to change everyone's lives for the better.

Ready to simplify? WE ALL BENEFIT FROM EATING MORE FRESH, WHOLE, REAL FOODS. We all feel better when we start to let go of the more processed food-like products that are forever stable on the grocery store shelves because they've had all the life sucked out of them. WE DESERVE BETTER!

ACTION STEPS

⭐️ Take inventory of your food today. Are there a few whole, REAL foods in the mix? Can you add one more vegetable, piece of fruit, whole egg (not just the whites), or high-quality piece of meat or fish?

⭐️ Comment with your thoughts and questions

⭐️ As we share our REAL food inspiration, tips, time saving secrets, and nutritional wisdom each day check in with your personal situation and how things are feeling in your body.

What a whirlwind of a season! As we close out the year, we're revisiting some of the special moments of 2025.

We love when our nomadic lifestyle allows us to support causes near and dear to our big, holistic hearts!

This October, we were honored to help the Weston A. Price Foundation celebrate 25 years of education, connection, and commitment to true wellness at their Wise Traditions Conference in Salt Lake City!

Fermented foods, healthy fats, and the importance of quality proteins are hot topics today, but we want to give credit where credit is due and honor the OGs of traditional diets!

⭐️ Weston A. Price’s most well-known book, NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL DEGENERATION, was first published in 1939, where he made the connection between the newly introduced processed foods of the time and the health decline of populations around the world.

⭐️ NOURISHING TRADITIONS, by WAPF President Sally Fallon Morell (now considered the bible of traditional food wisdom), hit the scene back in 1995!

We're proud to say we've been strong supporters of this legacy ever since we started on our individual wellness paths over 25 years ago!

It felt like a full-circle moment to be able to share our passion for wellness with the community via delicious, therapeutic, seasonal, zero-proof cocktails!

What a whirlwind of a season! As we close out 2025, I want to revisit and share some of the special moments from this year that deserve more attention than I was able to give them at the time. Too busy living in the moment!

At the end of October, we experienced one of the year’s greatest joys—our son’s wedding! Loved ones came together in a small Montana town, sharing laughter, love, and celebration in a beautiful place that perfectly matched the spirit of the day!

Family and friends worked tirelessly to make sure that everything came together for them. Food was lovingly prepared, the space was transformed, and special moments were captured to enjoy for years to come.

AJ designed the beautiful handfasting arbor from found materials. I got to test my baking and decorating skills and made my biggest cake to date!

I also got to write and officiate the handfasting ceremony, which was incredibly special! I’ve been officiating weddings since 2002 and have been part of so many beautiful celebrations, but this one obviously hit differently—I could barely keep it together! 😭

We're incredibly proud and feel fortunate that we could help them create the memorable, destination wedding they were dreaming of!

☆ HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!!! ☆

So much more like new years day to me, this auspicious day marks the true turning of the tides!

Being the shortest day and longest night of the year we take pause and honor the necessary darkness in our lives: the stillness, the shadow work, hibernation, incubation, the brewing...

In the same breath we celebrate the birth of the light, knowing that the days will lengthen from here. We welcome the clarity and inspiration the light brings, and set intentions for the new season, new year, and new chapter.

We have so much more to share in the new year! The light is bursting through the cracks!

BLESSED SOLSTICE TO YOU, OUR GROWING  COMMUNITY! 💫

How are you honoring the solstice? What intentions are you bringing into the light?
